NASH Maritime Hires Clark as Governance Lead

U.K.-based shipping, navigation, and maritime risk consultancy NASH Maritime announced it has appointed James Clark as governance lead, responsible for the development of the company’s port and maritime compliance business.Clark brings to the role two decades of both maritime risk and mariner experience. He started his career at sea, before joining Bristol Port Company as Assistant Harbor Master and later becoming responsible for VTS and shipping operations. Other roles have included Vessel Traffic Management and Ports Liaison with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Bristol Welcomes Free Ports Concept

Britain's most centrally located deep sea port, the Bristol Port Company welcomes the Free Port concept as it has the potential to boost investment opportunities in and around UK ports.Recently, UK's International Trade Secretary Liz Truss announced a new Freeports Advisory Panel to advise the government on the establishment of up to 10 Freeports."The first new Freeports will be established after we leave the EU, to turbocharge growth and ensure towns and cities across the UK benefit from Brexit trade opportunities," stated Truss.UK Port operators currently invest GBP600million of private capital per year and provide over 100,000 high value jobs.

Kalmar Upgrades Bristol Port's STS Crane

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with The Bristol Port Company to undertake a comprehensive upgrade of one of the terminal's ship-to-shore (STS) cranes.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 second quarter order intake and the upgrade project is scheduled to be completed during Q1 2019.The Port of Bristol is located at the mouth of the River Avon in south-west England and can handle vessels of up to 130,000 dwt.James Overthrow, Director of Engineering at The Bristol Port Company said: "We chose to partner with Kalmar because of their proven track record in crane construction and retrofit projects. New Damen Workboat for Bristol Port

The Bristol Port Company has taken delivery of a Damen Shoalbuster 2308S. Modified with several customized options, the vessel will be able to take on a multifunctional role that includes plough dredging, towing, pilotage and survey duties. This is the first contract between Damen and the Bristol Port Company. Construction of the new 23-meter-long Shoalbuster took place at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld, in the Netherlands. During the handover ceremony on March 17, the vessel was officially named Graham Robertson.

7th Annual UK Ports Conference to Take Off Tomorrow

Tomorrow 23rd June international law firm Hill Dickinson LLP will be holding  its UK Ports Conference focusing on ‘The Future of UK Ports: changing regulation, shipping trend updates and new opportunities in the supply chain’. The 7th Annual UK Ports Conference will allow senior representatives from across the ports, shipping and maritime sector to network and discuss policy updates, shipping trends and the latest logistics and supply chain guidance. The day will also look at how to approach port development and funding and hear from UK ports on how ports can support the economic development of the local area and the wider UK. Another discussion point will be on EU state aid and the key risk factors are for UK ports.

Konecranes Wins Order from U.K. Port

In September, The Bristol Port Company made a repeat order of a second type of crane is approximately $7.8m. The crane will be delivered to the Royal Portbury Dock in Bristol, U.K. in September 2007. The Bristol Port Company is a major deep-water port favorably located next to the huge consumer markets of the Midlands, London, and the fast growing markets of South and South West Wales. The port is designed to accommodate Cape-sized vessels with up to 130,000 tons dead weight, and the new investment in Konecranes Grab Unloader will further increase the ship unloading capacity of coal and animal feedstuffs at the Portbury Dock. The crane has a lifting capacity of 28 tonnes and an unloading capacity of 1,200 tons per hour.
