A Danish Baltic Sea island suffered a temporary power blackout on Monday as a local grid fault caused the transformer feeding electricity from Sweden to shut down, Energinet and E.ON said. Officials in Karlshamn in southern Sweden will allow Russia's Gazprom to use the city's port for the construction of its Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline after the government dropped its objections, the municipality said on Tuesday. The government had earlier expressed concerns about Gazprom's plans to use the port, but said on Monday the project did not threaten defense interests. Late last year, the island of Gotland rejected a similar deal to support the construction of the pipeline after the government expressed worries about national security. Both the Baltic Sea harbours at Karlshamn and Slite, Gotland, are situated in strategically sensitive areas, with Karlshamn around 50 kilometres from the large naval base at Karlskrona.

Sweden's government has dropped its objections to a plan by Russia's Gazprom to use the port of Karlshamn in southern Sweden as a base for the construction of its Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Swedish public radio reported on Monday. Officials in Karlshamn, on the Baltic sea, will take the formal decision on Tuesday, but are likely to vote yes to an agreement after the government tempered its previous objections to a deal. Late last year, the island of Gotland rejected a similar deal to support the construction of the pipeline after the government expressed worries about national security. Public broadcaster Swedish Radio reported assurances had been given that authorities would be able to keep tabs on activities at the port and that Karlshamn already handles a large number of Russian ships.

A wooden figurehead of a sea monster with ears like a lion and a crocodile's jaw was carefully lifted from the sea in southern Sweden on Tuesday by divers bringing up treasures from the wreck of a 15th-century Danish warship. The figurehead came from the wreck of the Gribshunden, which is believed to have sunk in 1495 after it caught fire on its way from Copenhagen to Kalmar on Sweden's east coast. Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has entered the record books thanks to the remarkable heavy lift capabilities of its latest reachstacker, named Super Gloria. The reachstacker lifted a steel component weighing over 100 tonnes in front of an invited audience on Friday, 12 September 2014 at Kalmar's multi-assembly unit in Lidhult, Sweden. The new DRG1000-92 ZXS reachstacker range is the world's largest industrial reachstacker in Kalmar's hugely successful Gloria range. It boasts a completely new design, developed to meet customer's critical specifications with lift capacities up to 120 tonnes depending on application. The Super Gloria model has been augmented with a specially raised cab to enhance visibility and a wheelbase of 9.25m to provide maximum stability.

Cavotec says it has supplied an integrated system of radio remote control (RRC) units for a new ferry, 'Braheborg', on the Gränna-Visingsö service. The system will operate 8 lanes of traffic lights, a road barrier and hydraulic road decks on the Swedish car ferry. The ferry service links the island of Visingsö to the mainland at the town of Gränna in central southern Sweden, with some forty sailings daily. The Cavotec system consists of four MC-3200 RRC terminals  fitted with a radio link, and base units installed at Gränna and Visingsö.

The Peene shipyard in Germany successfully completed a new series that was part of an order obtained during insolvency. The coast guard vessel (Kustbevakningen Vessel) KBV 034 was handed over to the Swedish Coast Guard, with a reflagging ceremony at dock 2 of the Peene shipyard in Wolgast, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Swedish Coast Guard originally placed the order for a total of four new coast guard vessels in 2008.Two of the coast guard vessels were already delivered in June and July of 2012. After the Peene shipyard filed for insolvency, that contract had to be reaffirmed.

The Volvo Group has taken a step to reduce the number of intoxicated drivers entering Sweden by providing breathalyzer equipment for truck and bus drivers at ferries serving Sweden. This initiative has been welcomed by the authorities. Over the past few years, there have been several serious accidents involving foreign vehicles driven by drivers who have been intoxicated. Statistics from the police in southern Sweden also indicate a sharp rise in the number of intoxicated drivers. As of March this year, the number of drivers arrested in the port of Ystad for driving under the influence of alcohol has more than doubled compared with the previous year.

Stena Line officials said the opening of the Oresund Bridge in July 2000, linking Sweden and Denmark, would have a damaging effect on Scandlines' operations.
