Allseas' Subsea Mining Ship Project is Moving Forward

Swiss-based Allseas has awarded Dutch subsea technology company Seatools the contract for the delivery of the complete electrical, hydraulic and control system for Allseas’ deep-sea mining nodule collector.Driven by the green energy transition, the interest in high-grade seafloor polymetallic nodule deposits has risen in the past few years due to the depleting terrestrial deposits for metals such as copper, nickel, manganese and cobalt. What's New in Floating Production?

Today there are 324 oil/gas floating production units are now in service, on order or available for reuse on another field. FPSOs account for 64% of the existing systems, 79% of systems on order. Production semis, barges, spars and TLPs comprise the balance. The oil/gas production floater inventory has increased by four units since last month. Three FPSOs were ordered in August. We also reinstated a partially completed production semi,  Octobuoy, which we earlier deleted from the list of orders when the contract was terminated. This unit was being built for use by ATP in the North Sea.

Fugro's New Geotechnical Drilling Vessel Begins Operation

Fugro Voyager, a purpose built DP2 geotechnical drilling vessel, is entering service with Fugro’s Offshore Geotechnical Division to expand its operations in the frontier areas of the Asia Pacific region. Specifically designed and built to address the varied demands of the region’s deepwater markets, the new vessel has several features which will enhance overall productivity, Fugro said. At 83 meters by 20 meters, with a twin tower drilling derrick over a centrally located moon pool, the vessel has automated pipe and tool handling equipment to promote safe drilling floor operations.

China Shipbuilders Ready to Foray into Offshore Engineering

Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group Co Ltd began building CNOOC 201, a deepwater pipe laying and lifting vessel for China National Offshore Oil Corporation in Rugao Port of Nantong City in Jiangsu Province on September 16th 2008. CNOOC Engineering plans to input CNY 15 billion(USD2bn) in construction of a series of deepwater equipment including deep sea drilling vessels, ready to focus on deepwater prospecting, since most of the country's newly discovered oilfields are deep undersea. According to South Korean companies' experience, the gross margin of offshore engineering reaches up to 30%, while that of China's domestic shipbuilding industry has only hit 18% to 19% since the beginning of 2008.

Kvaerner Secures $11M Deepwater Project from BP

Kvaerner announced that Aker Kvaerner has been awarded a contract, worth $11 million, to supply advanced drilling and mooring equipment for BP. The advanced deepwater equipment has been developed and will be delivered by Maritime Hydraulics and Maritime Pusnes. The equipment is due for completion and delivery in the first quarter of 2003, and is for a semi-submersible platform which BP is having built for installation on the Thunder Horse oil field.

Edison Chouest to Build BP Storage Facility

Galliano-based Edison Chouest Offshore will build a storage and preservation facility for BP in Houma next year, according to Edison Chouest corporate communications director Lonnie Thibodeaux. The 122,000 square-foot facility, located at on the northeast quadrant of the intersection of La. 311 and U.S. 90, will consolidate BP’s deepwater equipment assets into one facility from more than 100 storage locations, said Thibodeaux. Additionally, the U.S. 90-La. 311 intersection is a link-up with Morgan City and Thibodaux. Chouest will probably subcontract parts of the BP building and in-house personnel will work on other aspects, officials said. Construction, which will probably consume a year, is slated to begin in January.
