Bisso Towboat Orders Tug from Main Iron Works
Luling, La. based marine towage provider Bisso Towboat said it has ordered a new tractor tug from Houma, La. shipbuilder Main Iron Works. Construction is scheduled to commence in late 2022 with delivery in early 2024, Bisso revealed in an announcement.The 5,000 BHP ASD tug will feature two Caterpillar 3516E Tier 4F main propulsion engines generating 2,500 BHP each at 1,600 RPM. The engines will drive a pair of Kongsberg US205S azimuthing thrusters with 2,400 mm diameter stainless steel propellers in stainless steel nozzles. Estimated bollard pull will be 66 tons.Other onboard equipment will include a JonRie Series 240 escort winch, Caterpillar C4.4 118 KW generator sets and a full complement of safety, monitoring and electronic equipment, Bisso said.

Luling, La.-based Bisso Towboat said it has signed an agreement with Houma, La. shipbuilder Main Iron Works to begin construction of a new 6,008 BHP azimuthing stern drive (ASD) tractor tug. Construction is scheduled to commence in August 2020 with delivery expected in early fall of 2021.The EPA Tier 4 compliant tug will feature two Caterpillar 3516E Tier 4F main propulsion engines generating 3,004 BHP each at 1800 RPM. The engines will drive two Schottel SRP 460 FP azimuth thrusters with 98.4″ diameter stainless steel propellers in stainless steel nozzles.
Washburn & Doughty Delivers Mary Ann Moran
On September 1, 2010, Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. delivered the Mary Ann Moran, a 121 ft x 36 ft x 18 ft Intercon Tug, to Moran Towing Corporation. Designed by Ocean Tug & Barge Engineering Corp., Mary Ann Moran is the fourth vessel built by Washburn & Doughty to this design and delivered to Moran Towing. According to the vessel’s captain, Mr. Jake Jarrell, “I can say that this boat is by far one of the best vessels I have ever had the pleasure of working on in over 30 years in the industry.
Kvichak Awarded Contract for Catamaran
Kvichak Marine Industries, Seattle, has been awarded a contract to build a 64 ft. whale watching catamaran for operation in Ele'ele, Kauai, Hawaii. Designed by Crowther Multihulls, of Newport, Australia, the 100-passenger vessel will cruise the Na Pali Coast for year-round whal watching, snorkeling and sightseeing tours. The overall length of the all-aluminum vessel will be 64 ft., with a beam of 28 ft. The vessel will operate at cruising speeds from 20 to 25 knots, with a propulsion package including: twin Cummins N-14 marine diesel engines coupled to 2.5 in. diameter Aquamet-19 propeller shafts and 26 in. diameter stainless steel propellers.
