Tech File: Repower After Layup at the Thai Marine Department

A well-built, modern vessel can be expected to outlive her original engines. The challenge for those representing the owners, is to choose new engines that match or exceed the capabilities of the original power. Consideration will be given to replicas of the original engines. However, availability and suitability may limit this.These were some of the considerations confronting the Thai Marine Department when they decided to put their 41.85 by 3.9-meter oil response vessel back into service.

Yantian Express Ready to Depart

Hapag-Lloyd says repairs have completed on board the fire-stricken containership MV “Yantian Express” in Freeport Harbour, Bahamas and will depart on Wednesday May 15th."The vessel is currently berthed at the terminal in the Bahamas. Reloading of all containers previously discharged ashore for inspection has now been completed," said a press release from the  Accordingly all cargoes, whether security has been provided or not, are now on board the Yantian Express  German-based cargo container shipping line.Dependent on final technical approval of vessel class, arrival of spare parts and conclusion of repairs, MV “Yantian Express” is now tentatively scheduled to depart from Freeport…

Viking Jupiter Met with Minor Accident at Piraeus Port

Piraeus Port Authority S.A welcomed newly built cruise ship of Norwegian Viking Ocean Cruises' Viking Jupiter and handed an honorary plaque to the Cruise Director Mark Andrew Brignone and books for the ship's library.However, the Norwegian cruiser got into a minor accident while docking at a pier in the port.According to media reports, the cruiser with 607 passengers and 483 crew members on board was at the process of arrival when it crashed with the right side due to the stormy winds.Stormy winds were the cause of the cruise accident, since they forcibly hit the vessel’s right hull to the pier. The vessel suffered minor damages include a crack of about 10 cm.The cruise ship Viking Jupiter is 230 meters long with capacity 950 passengers…
