CLdN Acquires Seatruck Ferries from Clipper Group

European RoRo ferry operator CLdN announced on Tuesday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire all shares in Seatruck Ferries Holding Ltd. from Clipper Group. Gary Vogel, chief executive officer of Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc., has been named as the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) Commodore for the year 2022.The 2022 Commodore Award, given each year to a person in the international maritime industry who has contributed to the growth and development of the industry, will be presented on March 31, at the Gala Dinner marking the conclusion of the annual Connecticut Maritime Association conference and expo, in Stamford, Conn..Vogel has served as CEO and director of Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. Clipper Bulk Cuts Staff amid 'Historically Low Freight Markets'

Dry bulk operator Clipper Bulk announced it will reduce onshore staff in an effort to narrow costs amid historically low freight markets dragged down by the coronavirus pandemic.“The dry cargo market has struggled with unsustainably low freight rates for years, but the COVID-19 pandemic has made matters worse and caused a steep downturn in demand and freight rates. Clipper Takes Over Klaveness Pool

Danish dry bulk specialist Clipper Bulk announced that it would acquire the Bulkhandling shipping pool of Supramax and Ultramax vessels, from Norwegian shipowner Klaveness.The Bulkhandling pool dates back to 1963 and was the first pool operated in shipping.All current members of the Bulkhandling pool have been offered to join the new Clipper Bulkhandling pool, and the new pool management will jointly with the members agree on a strategy for further growth and expansion. Clipper Bulk Axes 40 Staff

International dry bulk shipping company Clipper Group  has launched a comprehensive restructuring involving a large number of layoffs, especially at the company's Copenhagen headquarters.The dry bulk carrier announced a series of initiatives to strengthen its business platform amid continued weak markets.Initiatives include agreements to strengthen the company’s financial position, downsizing of organization and office network, other cost savings, changes to Senior Management as well as a more focused market approach, said a press release from the operator of Handysize and Supramax vessels.“We have been challenged by the steep, unexpected market downturn. Morch Elected to J. Lauritzen BoD

Danish shipping company J. Lauritzen adds CEO of Norwegian Odfjell, Kristian V. Mørch, and CFO of the cleaning company ISS, Barbara Plucnar Jensen, into its board of directors. "J. Clipper Fleet, Dania Ship Announce Partnership

Dania Ship Management has announced plans to extend ship management capabilities to include dry cargo in a partnership agreement with Clipper Fleet Management, part of the Clipper Group. The partnership, which strengthens the commitment by V.Group, Nordic Tankers and Clipper Group to create a compelling platform for Copenhagen based ship management solutions, will see the transfer of 28 shore-based employees and around 1,000 seafarers to Dania Ship Management. Maersk Fluid Technology Sees SEA-Mate Order Influx

Maersk Fluid Technology (MFT) has reported a recent influx of orders for its SEA-Mate Blending-on-Board (BOB) system as confirmation of industry demand for technological solutions that enable ship operators to blend fit-for-purpose cylinder lubricant compositions on board their vessels that match actual engine operating conditions and fuel sulphur levels. The use of this type of technology can reduce cylinder oil consumption and alleviate issues such as cold corrosion and excessive cylinder wear, according to MFT.

Gibdock Performs Quick Freight Ferry Repair

Gibdock has redelivered the Seatruck Ferries container/ro-ro vessel Clipper Point on-time, after a fast turnaround 11-day renewal project for the Clipper Group-owned operator. The ship has subsequently been introduced to Seatrucks’ Irish Sea operations. Returning Gibdock customer Seatruck scheduled the 5,193dwt Clipper Point to arrive in the yard on September 18. Genco Shipping Posts Loss in 2015

US-headquartered ship owner Genco Shipping & Trading Limited suffered a massive loss for 2015 just like the rest of the industry. However, the result represents a big improvement from the losses in 2014. Dry bulk carrier has managed to decrease its net loss to USD 49.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2015, compared to a net loss of USD 164 million seen in the corresponding period a year earlier. Genco’s revenues dropped to USD 35 million for the fourth quarter, compared to USD 55.7 million recorded in the same period in 2014. The decrease was primarily due to lower spot market rates. For the full year of 2015 the company recorded a net loss of USD 194.9 million, down from a net loss of USD 938.5 million seen in 2014.

Norborg Steps in as Clipper Group CEO

Clipper Group has appointed Peter Norborg new Group CEO, succeeding current chief Frank G. Jensen, who will continue with the company as Chairman of the Board. Norborg will commence work in Clipper on April 1, 2016. Norborg, 49, comes from a position as Chief Operating Officer at Switzerland-based open hatch/dry bulk company Gearbulk, a position he has held since 2012. Before that, he spent 14 years at D/S Norden, latest as Executive Vice President and Head of Dry Cargo division. Peter holds an EMBA from IMD Business School.

Clipper to Take Delivery of 2 Ultramax Newbuilds

Clipper Group announced it will take delivery of two SDARI64 newbuilding bulk carriers during the coming months from Sainty Shipbuilding in Yangzhou, China. The vessels, to be named Clipper Kalavryta and Clipper Kythira, were purchased as resales and will be technically and commercially managed by Clipper. The SDARI64s are next generation eco bulk carriers and designed to improve overall vessel performance. These particular vessels will in addition be delivered with special cranes with an above the average lifting capacity and grab volume. Both vessels are also equipped with the ballast water treatment system Electro Cleen System to meet new requirements and thus preventing spreading of invasive species between oceans.

Fund Targets Mols-Linien

The Danish equity fund Polaris makes a tender offer on all shares of the ferry operator Mols-Linien, which sails on routes Odden-Ebeltoft and Odden-Aarhus. Polaris offered to pay 34 Danish crowns a share, valuing the ferry operator at 482 million Danish crowns ($71.7 million). The private equity group has entered an agreement with Clipper Group A/S to acquire their stake of 29.95% in Mols-Linien for an undisclosed price. In addition, Polaris received irrevocable advance commitments to purchase additional 46.24% stake in Mols-Linien from Nykredit Bank A/S, Financial Stability A/S and FS Finance III A/S. Mols-Linien operates three high-speed ferries between Jutland and Zealand that allow travellers to save 200 km compared with the route via The Great Belt Bridge.

Odfjell Board Announces New CEO’s Start Date

Kristian Verner Mørch will take up his new position as president and CEO of Odfjell SE from August 1, 2015, the company’s board of directors announced. His appointment was announced in May 2015. Mørch, a member of the board of Odfjell SE since May 2014, will step down as board director of the company from the same date. Mørch is Danish citizen with more than 27 years' experience in the shipping industry, of which more than 10 years have been in senior management positions, previously holding posts as co-CEO of Clipper Group, COO of Maersk Tankers, and other management positions in A.P.

The board of directors of Odfjell SE has appointed Kristian Mørch as the company's new president and CEO. He will succeed current president and CEO Tore Jakobsen by November 1, 2015. Mørch is a Danish citizen and presently holds the position as co-CEO of Clipper Group. He has previously been COO of Maersk Tankers, and has also held other management positions in A.P. Moller-Maersk. Mørch holds an MBA from IMD (Switzerland), and is an AMP graduate from Harvard Business School. He has been a member of the Board of Odfjell SE since May 2014.

Clipper Establishes New Supramax Pool

Clipper has established the Clipper Sapphire Pool, a new commercial pool for modern Supramax grab fitted bulk carriers between 52,000 and 58,000 deadweight.
