Cyprus Launches Maritime Academy

 The University of Nicosia announced the operation of the Cyprus Maritime Academy at the Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Centre for Nautical Education, where the academy’s facilities are housed.

 
According to local media reports, Cyprus Maritime Academy will receive its first students in September 2016 and offer four-year degree programs which will cover the three main sectors of the nautical industry: Nautical Science, Nautical Engineering, and Nautical Electric Engineering.
 
The Academy will take in 35-40 students in its first year. During the second year of the degree program all students will go through practical training in shipping companies in Cyprus, with 25 of the graduates of the class of 2016 having a secure job placement.
 
Academy blelieves that it would be a success and that the Cyprus shipping industry will comfortably be able to employ Cypriot junior officers with a degree from the Academy onboard their vessels, having a fleet of 1,677 ships, gross tonnage of approximately 23 million under Cyprus flag and employing 55.000 seafarers today.
