Vard Electro Batteries for Siem Offshore's Subsea Construction Vessel

World’s First MAN B&W ME-GI Enters Service

Nakilat, in association with Qatari LNG producers Qatargas and RasGas Company Limited and engine manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo, recently celebrated the success of the ME-GI project involving the retrofit of chartered Q-Max vessel, Rasheeda, with a gas-burning M-Type Electronically Controlled – Gas Injection (ME-GI) System, which has now been successfully commissioned. The Qatari-owned Q-Max vessel is the world’s first low-speed marine diesel engine to be converted to use LNG as a fuel. The retrofit modification meets the current known and future stated global emissions regulations. Nakilat’s Rasheeda built in 2010 is a 266,000 m3 LNG carrier with two MAN B&W S70ME-C HFO-burning engines, which have been converted to the dual-fuel ME-GI concept.

The exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber) supplied by Deltamarin Floating Construction to Bore Ltd on a turnkey basis, has received confirmation of full compliance with SECA and IMO regulations (approved by Lloyd's register and TRAFI, the Finnish Transport Safety Agency). After the 14-day dry docking, the open loop operation of the scrubber was in immediate use when the ship left the repair yard. The system delivered for the 13,500 DWT RoRo ship M/V Bore Song 12MW main engine (Wärtsilä 12V46F CR 12,000 kW) is based on DeltaLangh scrubber technology.

Kalmar to Heighten STS Cranes of DP World Antwerp

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has been awarded the contract to heighten three Kalmar ship-to-shore (STS) cranes operated by DP World Antwerp Gateway NV. The order was signed into Cargotec's first quarter of 2015 order intake, with the completion of the project scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2016. Kalmar will be responsible for the turnkey project, including planning and engineering, the execution of the heightening, and commissioning. The cranes, which have been operational since 2005, are to be heightened by six metres to accommodate larger vessels entering the port. This is in anticipation of significant growth in container movements.

Nicaragua Building China-led Canal to Rival Panama

Nicaragua on Monday broke ground on its Chinese-led $50 billion shipping canal, a massive infrastructure project that aims to rival Panama's waterway and revitalize the economy of the second-poorest country in the Americas. Nicaragua's government says the proposed 172-mile (278-km) canal, due to be operational by around 2020, would raise annual growth to over 10 percent and help put an end to endemic poverty in the country of 6 million people. It could also give China a major foothold in Central America, a region that for years has been dominated by the United States, which completed the Panama Canal a century ago. ABB WinsTunisia's Gas Treatment Plant Bid

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has been awarded a $216 million contract to deliver a gas treatment plant to the South Tunisian Gas Project (STGP).The order was awarded by OMV Tunisie Production GmbH, a subsidiary of Austrian energy group OMV, and was booked in the third quarter. ABB will be responsible for the turnkey delivery of the Nawara gas treatment plant (GTP) including gas separation and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) extraction units. It will also provide key automation, communications and power components, including the control system and transformers and switchgear for the electrification of the plant.

Western Baltija Shipbuilding delivers multi-purpose cargo ship

Western Baltija Shipbuilding - a part of Western Shipyard which in its turn belongs to the biggest Estonian concern BLRT Grupp has finished a turnkey project and delivered a multi-purpose cargo vessel Anetta. According to Fjodor Berman, the Chairman of the Board of BLRT Grupp, building vessels from scratch, starting from the elaboration of a vessel’s concept and ending with its launching, has been the ultimate goal of the concern all these years. Multi-purpose cargo vessel Anetta is the second such purpose turnkey delivery of new build vessel for Western Baltija Shipbuilding. The vessel was constructed for the transportation of bulk and bale cargo, timber, grain, and steel coils.

Wärtsilä Awarded TT-Line Exhaust Gas Cleaning Retrofit

Wärtsilä has been contracted by German-Swedish ferry operator TT-Line to retrofit an exhaust gas cleaning system to its Ro-Pax vessel, the M/S Robin Hood as part of TT-Line's Green Ship strategy. Sener Provides Second Virtual Design Center to Navantia

Sener was the winning bidder for the turnkey project for the second Virtual Design Center (VDC) of Navantia, this time for its Factory in Ferrol. This is the second with similar scope supplied by Sener to Navantia, after the first installation in the Factory of Cartagena in 2011, which is now fully operative. With capacity for 30 occupants, the new VDC has a fixed screen of five meters wide and 2.6 meters high, with overhead projector and a system of first reflection mirror due to the dimensions of the room.

Wärtsilä Powered FPSO Passes Load Tests

The new P-63 Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) is powered with Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines which passed load tests. This FPSO is the first such ship to utilize gas engines to produce more than 100 MWe of power. The tests were carried out at the Cosco shipyard in Dalian, China and the vessel will commence operations in Brazil’s offshore oil fields in 2013. Wärtsilä was contracted by the Brazilian industrial group QUIP, to provide a turnkey package for this vessel.

User interface is the most visible system component when it comes to equipment operation. From the steering wheel and instrument cluster on your vehicle’s dashboard to the most complex industrial control system, the purpose is the same; it must allow human interface into a system. VOSTA LMG Contract for Dredgers

The key laying of two CSD’s 500 will take place on Thursday June 2 in Sharjah (UAE). VOSTA LMG signed a contract with Jordan Modern Industries (JMI) for supply of two CSD’s 500 in March 2011. The two dredgers will be built at APT Global Marine services LCC, and will be used by the Ministry Of Water Resources / Directorate of Executing Rivers Dredging Works (Iraq) after delivery. The turnkey project is a repeat order of the CSD 500 for JMI, which is currently successfully operating in Iraq. Wärtsilä: Catalytic Converters for Multipurpose Icebreakers

Wärtsilä was contracted by Finland-based Arctia Offshore Oy to carry out modification work to two of the company's vessels. The contract was signed in September 2011. The turnkey project involves the fitting of combined Wärtsilä NOx Reducer (NOR) and Oxidation Catalysts (OXI) to the MSV Fennica and MSV Nordica, both of which are multi-functional vessels based on a modified icebreaker design.
