WRSystems Announces Two Key Appointments

W R Systems, Ltd. (WRSystems) announces two key appointments in its Maritime Technologies Division: Mr Arthur Thomas Senior joins as Vice President – Maritime Business and Mr Mike Kellner joins as Director – Maritime Business. WRSystems’ Maritime Technologies Division supplies Radar, ECDIS and Inertial Navigation Technology as part of a full suite of navigational products. Art Thomas leads the expansion of the Maritime Technologies Division within WRSystems. Mr Thomas’ team at WR Systems builds on the company’s extensive experience in design, supply, installation and through-life support of navigational and communications equipment. Seither Tapped to Lead SNAME

Erik Seither

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers named Erik Seither as its next Executive Director of the Society, according to a press release posted on the organization’s website. Seither will become the 12th person to serve in the capacity since the organization’s founding in 1893. He will assume the helm of SNAME HQ on July 6, succeeding Phil Kimball, who has held the position since 1998. “I am thrilled to be selected to work with an organization of such distinguished and professional people,” Seither said.

Seacoast is Now Radio Holland USA

Radio Holland Group announced that as of Jan. 15 2009, the business of Seacoast Electronics and Radio Holland USA was fully merged into a single company. Seacoast became part of the Radio Holland Group organization in 2007. Since then, the cooperation between Radio Holland USA and Seacoast has become intensive, synergies have been identified and applied, and now the time has come to fully team up and become one organization. Seacoast Electronics has begun trading as Radio Holland USA from the Jacksonville and Tampa offices, which now also carry the Radio Holland name. As a result the Seacoast name will cease to exist. Feature: Getting on an Even Keel

Without much fanfare, VT Halter Marine, Gulfport, Miss. is completing a number of very large and capable vessels for both commercial and U. S. Government interests. The company seems on track with the objectives set last year by CEO Boyd E. "Butch" King to add additional projects to their two shipyards located in the Pascagoula, Miss. area. For example, the company will christen the Oscar Dyson October 17. This is a very unique Fisheries Survey Vessel for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a Federal Government agency. The vessel is 208 ft. long with a 49-ft. beam and a relatively deep 28-ft. hull that has a maximum draft of 19 ft.. The Oscar Dyson has a steel, ice-classed hull with an aluminum deckhouse and is anticipated to run at 14 knots.

Leica Marine To Supply ID Systems For BP Tankers

Leica Marine GPS has received orders from Seacoast Electronics to supply automatic identification systems (AIS) for three new tankers under construction for British Petroleum at the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) in San Diego, California. Each of the vessels will be fitted with an integrated DGPS/AIS system meeting the International Maritime Organization (IMO) carriage requirements for shipboard AIS. The AIS equipment will permit the ships to exchange vital identification and navigation data automatically with other AIS-equipped ships and coastal stations via VHF radio channels.
