The total megawatt capacity of U.S. offshore wind farms is anticipated to reach 22,000 by 2030 and 43,000 by 2050. To support this growth, U.S. Department of Energy reports estimate over 40,000 new jobs will be created by 2030.The new jobs anticipated to support the offshore wind industry include a wide range of types, including engineers, trade workers, surveyors, scientists, technicians, managers, and seafarers.

As I was preparing for Thanksgiving dinner I put on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. While Indiana Jones and Doctor Elsa Schneider were being chased by the Brotherhood of the Cruciform sword through Venice and their boat was neatly shredded by the propellers of a larger vessel, it had me thinking of how much propeller technology has changed over the years. And how hopefully Indiana’s boat did not actually damage that vessel’s propeller. Recently an article passed though my news feed about the first 3D printed propeller. This is indicative of the direction the industry is taking.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed to designate a dredged material disposal site to serve the eastern Long Island Sound region. The Eastern Long Island Sound Disposal Site (ELDS) would be located offshore from New London, Conn., and would be available for the disposal of dredged material from harbors and navigation channels in eastern Long Island Sound in the states of Connecticut and New York. United Completes Purchase Of Phillips 66 Riverhead Long Island 5 Million Barrel Oil And Petroleum Products Terminal; Deepwater Location Accommodates Any Ocean Going Vessel In The World. United Riverhead Terminal, Inc., announced today that it has closed on the purchase agreement with Phillips 66 to acquire the Riverhead bulk storage terminal. The facility, located on a 286 acre site in Suffolk County, New York, consists of 20 storage tanks, a truck transfer rack, and an off-shore barge/ship platform which is the only deepwater loading/unloading platform on the U.S. East Coast. With an operating draft of 64 feet, the terminal's offshore platform routinely receives Suezmax vessels and is capable of handling VLCC tankers.

In a freak accident that occurred in the Long Island Sound off the coast off Orient Point, L.I., a 65-ft. tractor-trailer rolled off Cross Sound Ferry's 250-ft. vessel, Susan Ann. The first signs of trouble began this morning at approximately 10:30 a.m., when, according to the Police Department, Town of Southold, L.I., the vehicle, a 1989 Western Star Tractor Trailer with the driver inside, broke free -- falling off the rear of the above vessel while in the Plum Gut area of the Long Island Sound -- east of its destination -- Orient Point. At the time, the vessel was performing a routine crossing from New London, Conn. to Orient Point, L.I. Upon discovery that the vehicle had fallen overboard, the crew of Susan Ann launched a rescue vessel from the ferry to recover the victim, Michael J.

Coast Guard rescue crews are searching for a missing ferry passenger after two people were reported unaccounted for, and a 65-ft. paving truck fell off the ferry Susan Anne less than one mile off Orient Point, Long Island, N.Y., 10 a.m. today. A crew from a second ferry in the vicinity responded and initially recovered one person from the water deceased. The victim was then transferred by the crew of the Susan Anne to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, Long Island, N.Y. Names are being withheld until next of kin can be notified. A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew, two Coast Guard rescue boat crews from Station Montauk and a rescue boat crew from Station New London continue to search for the second passenger.
