The CMA CGM Group announced it will merge its subsidiaries MacAndrews and OPDR effective January 1, 2018.,  in line with the Group’s strategy to develop its intra-regional activities Headquarters will be located in Hamburg. The union between these two companies specialized in intra-European transport enables the CMA CGM Group to strengthen its multimodal offer in Europe, particularly thanks to the complementarity of the geographical zones covered today by MacAndrews and OPDR, iCMA CGM said. CMA CGM announced it will purchase through its subsidiary, ANL, the majority of the shares in SOFRANA Unilines, a key player in the Pacific Islands regional maritime trade. With operations in the South Pacific region for almost 50 years, SOFRANA Unilines operates directly or in partnership a fleet of 10 vessels on eight trade-lanes, servicing 21 ports in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific islands. In third-quarter 2015, CMA CGM once again outperformed the market average in an industry shaped by a sharp fall in freight rates and overcapacity in certain markets. Freight rates were especially weak on certain lines, including Asia-Europe. Other lines such as Transpacific routes continued to benefit from a better balance between supply and demand. CMA CGM has adjusted its capacity accordingly. Volumes carried jumped 3.4% to 3.3 million TEUs, helping to stem the 9.0% decline in the Group's revenue to $4.0 billion. There was a further fall in unit costs over the period, down 10.7% on the back of the decline in bunker prices. The Group protected its margins, reporting core EBIT of $158 million and a core EBIT margin of 4% over the quarter.

* Volumes carried during the second quarter increased by 6.2% year-on-year, to 3.3 million TEUs, compared to global market volume growth of between 1% and 2%. * Average revenue per container carried decreased by 7.8%. However, this decrease was significantly less than benchmark indices for the period due to the broad diversity of the Group's customers and lines. * Unit costs fell 10.9%, largely due to the sharp fall in oil prices. * Core EBIT surged 59.3% compared to the second quarter of 2014 to $325 million, as the Group’s lower unit costs outpaced the decline in average revenue per container carried. The core EBIT margin of 7.9% was once again significantly above peer averages. * Consolidated net profit group Share came to $156 million, up 66.7% on second-quarter 2014.

The CMA CGM Group announced that the European Commission has approved its acquisition of OPDR. In order to finalize the acquisition, which was announced on November 25, 2014 by Jacques R. MacAndrews is to launch a line between Portugal, Spain, England and Russia. Serving alongside CMA CGM Karibu, Cape Bonavista replaces Hanseduo in the service which calls at Karachi, Nhava Sheva, Jebel Ali, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa and Karachi with a 28-day round voyage time. With 80 reefer plugs, Cape Bonavista will support MacAndrews' increasing commitment to carrying fresh produce in refrigerated units. "Creating a homogenous vessel fleet for our Swahili Express service has been a priority. Cape Bonavista is a faster ship that will help us ensure schedule integrity on the service,” said Jim Robb, General Manager, Indian Trades.

The new ship, MacAndrews SWALA, is 1100 teu capacity and is one of two vessels in the service which has a nine-day sailing frequency and calls at Khor Fakkan, Karachi, Nhava Sheva, Jebel Ali, Dar es Salaam and Mombasa with a 28-day round voyage time. With 100 reefer plugs, the new vessel supports MacAndrews' increasing commitment to carrying fresh produce in refrigerated units. MacAndrews SWALA is flagged in Panama and was built in 1994. The ship has a deadweight of 15,170 tonnes, a nominal capacity of 1,107 teu (including 100 reefer plugs) and a speed of 18.5 knots.
