MAN Investigating Irregularities During Handover Of 4-Stroke Marine Diesel Engines

In the light of indications of possible irregularities during the handover of 4-stroke marine diesel engines produced by MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, the management board of MAN SE has launched an investigation, to be carried out by the compliance department of MAN SE together with external consultants. MAN Diesel UK, MAN Turbo Merge

With immediate effect, Stockport based MAN Diesel Ltd and its sister company MAN Turbo (UK) Ltd have merged operations in the UK to form a new organization, MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Ltd. All administration and finance departments from both companies have been centralized at the newly built MAN Diesel & Turbo UK head office complex in Stockport, Cheshire.  Also, as part of this merger, a new MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Sales office has been opened in Redhill, Surrey.  The merger of the two UK operations into one organization, follows the announcement of the integration of the individual parent companies, MAN Diesel SE and MAN Turbo AG.  The Headquarters of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE is based in Augsburg, Germany.

Merger Complete: MAN Diesel & Turbo SE

The merger announced between MAN Diesel SE and MAN Turbo AG to form MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, based in Augsburg, is now complete, the corresponding entry having been made in the register of companies. The process of amalgamating the two former MAN sister companies into one enterprise has thus been achieved. In economic terms, the merger has come into effect retroactively as of 1 January 2010. MAN Diesel, Harren & Partner Order Complete

As a fitting finale to a major contract from a valued customer, MAN Diesel SE held a small celebration at its works in Augsburg, Germany. The event marked the start of acceptance testing of the final engine of eight ordered by shipowner Harren & Partner of Bremen, Germany, for a series of eight 16,500 DWT oil products and chemicals tankers being built at the Chinese Jiangnan Shipyard. As well as representatives from the shipowners, delegates from investors in the ships also participated at the celebration.

MAN Diesel chooses Marseille

To further its long-term relations with local clients and partners, MAN Diesel inaugurated its new hub in Marseille, on Thursday 9 July. Dr. Timmermann, Member of the Executive Board of MAN Diesel SE and Rémi Leport, Site Manager of this new hub, cut the red ribbon together. The Group’s French site, MAN Diesel SAS, based in Villepinte and Saint-Nazaire, has been developing an after sales service activity over the last 50 years for the S.E.M.T. Pielstick brand and for the MAN Diesel brand since 2006.

Merger of MAN Diesel and MAN Turbo

MAN Diesel SE and MAN Turbo AG are to work more closely together in future with the aim of forming a merger with each other under corporate law. By combining the product portfolios, the merged company will strive for further growth and a stronger position in its respective market segments. “This will allow the MAN Group to combine the engine and power plant expertise of the Diesel Engines business area with the compressor and turbine technology of the Turbomachinery business area to form a strong Power Engineering unit for the long term,” said Håkan Samuelsson, Chairman of the Executive Board of MAN SE. MAN Diesel provides large-bore diesel engines for use in ships and power plants, while MAN Turbo specializes in the development and construction of compressors, gas and steam turbines.

MAN Diesel, Harren & Partner Celebrate Order Completion

MAN Diesel SE recently held a small celebration at its works in Augsburg, Germany. The event marked the start of acceptance testing of the final engine of eight ordered by shipowner Harren & Partner of Bremen, Germany, for a series of eight 16,500 DWT oil products and chemicals tankers being built at the Chinese Jiangnan Shipyard. As well as representatives from the shipowners, delegates from investors in the ships also participated at the celebration. Of the eight vessels ordered by Harren & Partner, six were delivered in the period between November 2004 and November 2006 with the final two scheduled for handover later in 2007. On the propulsion side, the tankers feature a single six cylinder inline version of the 48/60B heavy fuel main engine.

In detail, the tankers have a liquid cargo capacity of 19,500 cubic metres, an overall length of 144 metres, a beam of 23 metres and an 8.4 metre draught. engine. Wärtsilä Joint Diesel Research Project Completed

Multinational team led by Wärtsilä and MAN Diesel completed the major Hercules cooperative research project into the technology necessary for higher-efficiency engines with ultra-low emissions for ships. A team of more than 40 European engine component suppliers, equipment manufacturers, universities, research institutions and shipping companies, led by the major diesel engine groups MAN Diesel SE and Wärtsilä Corporation, has successfully completed the major 43-month cooperative research project under the name HERCULES (High Efficiency R&D on Combustion with Ultra-Low Emissions for Ships) with a budget of EUR 33 million, partly funded by the European Union (EUR 15 million) and the Swiss Federal Government (EUR 2.5 million).

MAN Diesel SE has Celebrates Delivery Milestone

Among total orders for over 140 of its type 58/64 heavy fuel engine sold to China in the past 6 years, the Augsburg works of MAN Diesel recently delivered the 100th example of its seven cylinder, inline configuration type 7L58/64 type engine to a Chinese shipyard. The special success of the seven cylinder version of the 58/64 is based on its popularity as the main engine in the type CV 1100 TEU container feeder ship. This vessel type is built at a number of shipyards in China, including the Jinling, Jiandong and Qingshan facilities of the CSC Group. As its name indicates, the CV 1100 TEU feeder has container carrying capacity of 1100 twenty foot equivalent units. MAN Diesel reports that this vessel type was first built in Europe and the design transferred to China in the early 2000’s.

Deputy Chairman of the Board of MAN Hands Over Reins

Fritz Pape, Deputy Chairman of the Board of MAN Diesel SE, retired on October 31. Pape has been part of the company since 1966, having spent 13 years as a Member of the Board. His successor, Dr. Georg Pachta-Reyhofen has been in charge of the company since July 1 in his role as Chairman of the Board. He is also a Director of MAN AG, Munich. After his training to become an engine fitter, Fritz Pape studied production engineering at the State School for Mechanical Engineering in Düsseldorf. Following graduation as an engineer in 1966, he began his career as a production engineer at MAN. From 1973 onwards, Pape was responsible for the entire mechanical processing of diesel engines.

The conversion of MAN B&W Diesel AG into a European Company (Societas Europaea, or SE for short) has been successfully concluded. At the same time the company will change its name into MAN Diesel SE, headquartered in Augsburg, Germany. By adopting SE status, the Executive Board intends to make the Diesel Engine Division of the MAN Group an even more international player showing a single face to the customer. At the same time, in order to better organize the working of its committees, the Supervisory Board , which is made up of an international team headed by Håkan Samuelsson, has been reduced from twelve to ten members, The Supervisory Board’s parity structure between the capital and the employee side will remain unchanged.

At the same time the company will change its name into MAN Diesel SE, headquartered in Augsburg, Germany. By adopting SE status, the Executive Board intends to make the Diesel Engine Division of the MAN Group an even more international player showing a single face to the customer. In order to better organize the working of its committees, the Supervisory Board, which is made up of an international team headed by Håkan Samuelsson, has been reduced from 12 to 10 members, The Supervisory Board’s parity structure between the capital and the employee side will remain unchanged. Employee co-determination will be organised on a cross-border basis in future, too.

MAN Diesel SE – A New European Company

MAN Aktiengesellschaft is intending to convert its Diesel Engines Business Area into a European Company (Societas Europaea) in the course of this year. At the same time, MAN B&W Diesel AG in Augsburg is to be renamed "MAN Diesel SE". "In a European Company we will think and act on an even more international scale, which is absolutely essential in the face of global competition," explained Håkan Samuelsson, Executive Board Chairman of MAN AG, at a press conference in Munich. A Societas Europaea (SE) is a corporate form under European law. This new legal form will allow for stronger integration of MAN´s international business activities. The MAN Diesel SE boards will be international bodies.
