Quinto Orders Inland Waterway Tanker from Concordia Damen

Last week, Dutch shipyard Concordia Damen was commissioned to build and equip an inland shipping tanker for Quinto Scheepvaart B.V. from Zwijndrecht. At This also marks the switch, after 25 years, that family business Quinto makes from container shipping to tanker shipping.Quinto Scheepvaart has opted for a tanker of the Parsifal type, a new generation of mineral (oil and light chemicals) tankers that Concordia Damen has developed itself and several of which are already operational.

Gulf Navigation Orders 6 Tankers from Wuchang

Dubai's Gulf Navigation Holding has signed a deal with China's Wuchang Group to expand its company's fleet, it said on Wednesday. Dubai's only listed crude shipper said in a statement the agreement would help meet "increasing demand for transferring chemicals from the UAE and other GCC countries to global markets". The statement said Wuchang Group would begin building six chemicals tankers. Gulf Navigation Holding said in September it had reduced its debt from $36 million to $21 million and hopes to end a long-running dispute with creditors by consolidating all of its borrowing before the end of the year. The crude shipper expanded ambitiously at the end of the last decade just as oversupply hit the chemical tanker business and transportation rates plummeted.

MAN Diesel, Harren & Partner Order Complete

As a fitting finale to a major contract from a valued customer, MAN Diesel SE held a small celebration at its works in Augsburg, Germany. The event marked the start of acceptance testing of the final engine of eight ordered by shipowner Harren & Partner of Bremen, Germany, for a series of eight 16,500 DWT oil products and chemicals tankers being built at the Chinese Jiangnan Shipyard. As well as representatives from the shipowners, delegates from investors in the ships also participated at the celebration.

SMM 2004: Ready for the World

SMM 2004, arguably the largest and most influential gathering of the marine industry in the world, is set to convene again in Hamburg, and according to many indicators, the exhibition should be a larger success than ever. World shipbuilding figures are hitting record heights in the run-up to the the 21st Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology, International Trade Fair Hamburg, which is scheduled to be held at the Hamburg Fair site from September 28 to October 2, 2004. Asia underscored its position in international shipbuilding, with a total of 16.7 million CGT, equivalent to the total newbuilding tonnage of the previous year. South Korea's shipbuilding industry completed 229 vessels with 6.9 million CGT.

MAN Diesel SE recently held a small celebration at its works in Augsburg, Germany. The event marked the start of acceptance testing of the final engine of eight ordered by shipowner Harren & Partner of Bremen, Germany, for a series of eight 16,500 DWT oil products and chemicals tankers being built at the Chinese Jiangnan Shipyard. As well as representatives from the shipowners, delegates from investors in the ships also participated at the celebration. Of the eight vessels ordered by Harren & Partner, six were delivered in the period between November 2004 and November 2006 with the final two scheduled for handover later in 2007. On the propulsion side, the tankers feature a single six cylinder inline version of the 48/60B heavy fuel main engine.

Gadot Chemicals Tankers Considers Floating GCT
