The next big thing on fuels is LNG. We are a long way from identifying a fuel which offers the same viability, in terms of infrastructure, beyond LNG at the moment. LNG is the necessary bridge which is getting us closer to a carbon neutral future.

Vard to Build Expedition Ship for Norway industrialist

Vard Holdings, a designers and shipbuilder of specialized vessels, announced that it has secured a contract for the design and construction of one Research Expedition Vessel for Rosellinis Four-10. Rosellinis Four-10 is wholly-owned by the Norwegian industrialist Kjell Inge Røkke and his family. Developed by Vard Design in collaboration with the customer and the designer Espen Øino, the Research Expedition Vessel (REV) is expected to enter service in 2020. The hull will be built at Vard Tulcea in Romania, and towed to Vard Brattvaag in Norway for outfitting. After delivery in Norway, the vessel will return to Romania for fairing, deck laying and finalization of the accommodation area.

Industry Pays Tribute to Innovation Awards Winners

Winners of the Lloyd’s List-SMM 2002 Awards for innovation in shipbuilding and marine technology were announced in the Hamburg Congress Centre last night (September 24) at a gala ceremony which brought day one of the world’s biggest maritime fair to a glittering conclusion. Several hundred leading industry figures gathered for the final stage of an initiative launched in March by Lloyd’s List and SMM organisers Hamburg Messe to recognise the technical advances which enable maritime commerce and defence. With 13 awards in three merchant and naval categories, the inaugural scheme attracted a massive wave of nominations for ships and support systems reflecting the cutting edge of ingenuity in improving performance, reducing costs and protecting the environment.

MarineTalk Awarded $2.1 Million For Innovative Engineering Support

MarineTalk Ltd. has been awarded the largest funding ever granted by CANARIE. This $2.1 million funding will be of major assistance in the development of a unique engineering and procurement support software, positioning MarineTalk at the forefront of advanced business application providers.
