China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) shipped a 60,000-tonne cargo of diesel in late May destined for Brazil, the Chinese major's first move of the refined fuel in a shipment of this size to the Americas, an inhouse newspaper reported on Monday.Chinaoil, CNPC's trading unit, has shipped nearly one million tonnes of diesel to Latin America since 2015, but mostly with medium-ranged tankers able to carry about 40,000 tonnes, the report said.The shipment to Brazil was loaded with production from Liaoyang Petrochemical Corp, a subsidiary refinery of CNPC, at Bayuquan port in Liaoning province in northeast China, according to the newspaper.CNPC aims to further explore the arbitrage opportunities and expand market share in South America, the report said, adding that larger shipments would help cut

Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) diverts more shipbuilding work to its joint-venture yards in China, local media says. According to a report in Nikkei, KHI will step up commercial shipbuilding in China and scale down production in Japan to improve cost competitiveness as the market rebounds from a yearslong slump. The Japanese firm plans a 50% capacity boost at a shipyard in Dalian, Liaoning Province, that builds mainly large ships, including tankers and bulk carriers. The facility is jointly operated with China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co., also known as Cosco. More than 20 billion yen ($176 million) will be invested at the site, including construction of a second dock about 550 meters long.

Milaha has taken delivery of a new lift boat which will be deployed offshore, particularly in support of field maintenance efforts. Named the Milaha Explorer, the new lift boat was built by Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. at its yard in Liaoning Province in China, and was designed by the China-based Tianjin De-Sail Machinery Equipment Co. Ltd. Milaha Explorer will be the biggest lift boat to be owned by a Qatari company, with a large deck area and variable load capacity, as well as the ability to accommodate 300 persons on board.

China Merchants Holdings (International) Company Limited, has announced that it has signed a share subscription agreement with Dalian Port (PDA) Co., under which Dalian Port will issue 1.1bn new shares to China Merchants for HK$4.3bn ($554m). Upon completion of the transaction, China Merchants will hold a 21.05% equity stake of Dalian Port, becoming the second largest shareholder. The Mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) and the City of Dalian, Liaoning Province in the People’s Republic of China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) laying the ground work for an official sister city relationship between the two regions and port cities. Like Sydney, Dalian is a port city. It boasts the largest ice free harbor in northern China and is one of the most modern in the world. It is the second largest transshipment hub in China and processes more than 10 million containers a year. Sydney is an active cruise, ferry and bulk cargo harbor.

Six affiliated companies of STX Dalian Shipbuilding, China's largest wholly foreign-funded shipbuilding company, are to start bankruptcy reorganization procedures, reports Xinhua, citing a court statement in Dalian City in northeast China's Liaoning Province. STX Dalian Shipbuilding is the Chinese unit of STX Group, one of the world's top five enterprises in the shipbuilding industry. The court indicated to Xinhua that, due to their inability to pay off their debts before the due date, the companies had filed a bankruptcy reorganization plan with the court. China's first 10,000 TEU container ship with independent intellectual property rights has been delivered from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning province, reports Xinhua. Drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are to be deployed along China's coastline to undertake remote-sensing marine surveillance. Local authorities said they could use the high-definition photos to discover illegal land reclamation and sand dredging as well as monitor marine environments along the coast and on islets. The project also includes the construction of 11 UAV bases run by provincial maritime authorities, according to Yu Qingsong, a division chief of the State Oceanic Administration. No further details on the scale or the schedule of the project were provided, but Yu noted that at least one drone would be stationed at each base.

Headquartered in Dandong, Liaoning province, Rilin Group is a large-scale private enterprise with a business scope including infrastructure construction, port operation and resource exploitation. It took over Dandong Port in 2005, and has since made Dandong Port the only private controlled major port in China.

According to Li Enhong, director of merchant seamen management at the Ministry of Transport, colleges are able to produce only a few thousand merchant sailors every year, far short of what is needed. More than 10,000 graduates who studied non-maritime majors have joined the merchant fleet since 2006, thanks to training offered as part of a government program to support the shipping industry. "We realize the serious problems caused by the shortage of seamen, and it may restrain trade," Li told China Daily. China's trade has been developing rapidly since entry into the World Trade Organization, and this requires an increasing number of merchant seamen. Foreign trade passed $3.6 trillion last year, an increase of 22.5 percent, according to the General Administration of Customs.

It sank some 40 minutes later, on May 2, 2010, at around 5:30 a.m. local time (GMT+8 hours). The crew of 23 (all Indians) was rescued by another vessel steaming nearby. The vessel with which Bright Century collided was the Liberia-registered Sea Success. That vessel’s crew was rescued by helicopter and all are safe. It has been reported that the Sea Success is now docked. The Bright Century left Dampier, Australia, with about 170,000 tons of iron ore bound for the port of Bayuquan, Liaoning Province.

Rescuers searched for 16 missing crew members of a South Korean cargo vessel that sank after colliding with a Chinese freighter in heavy fog in waters off northeast China, according to a report on www.leadingthecharge.com. The crew of the Chinese ship — the 4,800-ton JinSheng — were unharmed and returned safely to Dalian, a coastal city in northeastern Liaoning province, where they reported the incident to Chinese authorities about seven hours after the collision, it was reported. 77 people were saved and three were missing after a fishing boat carrying 80 people caught fire early yesterday in the Yellow Sea off east China's Shandong Province. According to www.ShanghaiDaily.com, the boat from Liaoning Province was found in flames at 2 a.m. about 30 nautical miles off Chengshantou, Rongcheng city. Shortly after 3 a.m.the fire had destroyed the entire cabin. The fire was brought under control by 4:50 a.m. Three sailors apparently jumped or fell into the water when all the 80 people on board were on the deck, waiting for help. A fourth sailor was missing. China's largest ever maritime search-and-rescue exercise, involving 400 people, 28 fleets, two helicopters and an aircraft, was carried out on Thursday in the waters near Dalian Port, northeast China's Liaoning Province.
