Maritime Vietnam 2006 Ready for November

With a few months to the show, Maritime Vietnam 2006 has lined up a range of special events. Organised by HQ Link Pte Ltd, Maritime Vietnam 2006 will take place in Ho Chi Minh City International Exhibition & Convention Centre (HIECC), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from 7 – 9 November 2006. Themed “Meeting Global Challenges in Vietnam’s Maritime Industry”, a one-day conference will take place to complement the exhibition by providing an insight on the new era of Vietnam’s maritime industry. Leading industry players have been invited to share their views on Vietnam’s shipbuilding industry, shipping facilities, innovative equipment & services that are required for the shipbuilding and ports development as well as the latest state-of-the-art navigational aids for harbors and channels use.

SSIC Completes Largest Vessel

The Saigon Shipbuilding Industry Company (SSIC) handed over Wednesday a 6,500 tonne freighter to the Saigon Shipping Company. The Saigon Queen, which cost $7.2 million, is 103-m long and 17-m wide, and has a top speed of 23 km per hour, is the largest vessel built by the shipyard. On its maiden run, the ship will carry agricultural products to China. The SSIC, a subsidiary of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, is building two more freighters of the same size for state-run shipping corporation Vinalines and the Can Tho Marine Transport Company. It is scheduled to hand over the vessels at the end of this year. The company has won contracts to build ships for Canadian and Danish companies. (Source: http://www.nhandan.com.vn/¬)

Vinashin to Build Vessel for Denmark

Reports indicate that the contract on building a 2,500-ton vessel, worth $4.5M, will be carried out over 15 months by the Saigon Shipbuilding Industry Company, a member of Vinashin. Representatives also signed a $90,000 contract for engine testing services. Danish Fabricius and ISC Consulting Engineers signed the bulk of the agreements. The Saigon Shipbuilding will begin building the 2,500-tonne ship in early 2006. Fifteen Danish shipbuilding companies, three large financial institutions and the Danish Embassy in Hanoi have joined forces with Vinashin and Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) to organise a workshop on cooperation and development in shipbuilding industries in Vietnam and Denmark.
