Paving the Way for 3D Printing in Naval Shipbuilding

A U.S. shipbuilder’s piloting of new technologies is redefining the future of the naval engineering and shipbuilding industries.Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division, in collaboration with the U.S. Navy, has led the adoption of additive manufacturing of metal components for nuclear-powered warships as part of HII’s digital transformation.This technological development will result in the first certified 3-D-printed metal part—a prototype piping assembly—being installed on the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) early next year.

NMEA Names Furuno ‘Best Radar’ for 40th Year

NAPA Wins Bourbon OSV Loading Computer Contract

Software house NAPA Group contracted to supply Bourbon with loading computers for 55 offshore support vessels (OSV's). The latest software will enable Bourbon to improve safe loading and unloading with maximum cargo intake while improving assistance to stability, longitudinal strength for operational efficiency. NAPA has begun and will continue to provide Bourbon OSVs with the most versatile and sophisticated 3D systems on the market; providing “real time” onboard loading calculations and ship stability analysis, as well as an emergency response system during loading.

Jeppesen, Furuno Partner on Navigation

Jeppesen, a subsidiary of The Boeing Company, has teamed with Furuno and MapMedia to develop NavNet 3D-compatible C-MAP by Jeppesen vector charts. This will allow boaters to use advanced features and functionality of the NavNet 3D system while navigating with C-MAP by Jeppesen chart data. North American boaters will now be able to utilize C-MAP by Jeppesen charts processed into MapMedia mm3d format to work in their NavNet 3D systems. GSM Design Group acquires FORAN V60

The Polish firm GSM Design Group has signed an agreement with Sener to use the FORAN System. GSM personnel have already received on site training in the FORAN Structure discipline, given by the Polish engineering company, StoGda, Sener’s representative in Poland. GSM is an engineering group established in 1999, whose main activity is offering services to shipyards and maritime engineering departments. The company carries out projects both for large passenger and merchant ships and for small, specialized ships, based on 2D and 3D systems. (www.sener.es)
