Army Corps Announces Industry Days

The US Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) announced four upcoming Industry Days. (Check SAM.gov for details).The St. Louis District Industry Day is Wednesday, March 2, 2022, 9:00AM to 5:00PM at the Engineering Center of St. Louis. Topics will cover ACE projects and opportunities within other agencies. ACE leadership will participate, and ACE will host one-on-one afternoon briefings covering specific topics. Damen’s 3rd Annual Workboat Festival

Last Thursday, Damen Shipyards Gorinchem hosted the Damen group’s third annual Workboat Festival. The event brought together more than 200 customers, media and industry partners, and 34 workboats, for an afternoon of presentations, demonstrations, product displays and interactive exhibits.The workboats ranged in size from ten-meter Stan Launches and Stan Tugs up to a 72-meter Stan Pontoon. In between were Fast Crew Suppliers, Stan Pilots, Stan Patrols, additional Stan Launches and Tugs, plus an Interceptor and a RHIB.

OOS Serooskerke Undocked at CMHI Jiangsu

China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) Jiangsu shipyard has undocked OOS Serooskerke, OOS International's newest semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV)."The undocking operation was complex because of the limited water depth in the dry dock," said a press release from the company.The close comradery between CMHI and OOS proved to be a winning formula to devising an efficient and safe method to undock the vessel, it said. The planning of the undocking operation started as early as January 2018 and ran through several iterations before the team arrived at the final plan.Due to the lack of water depth within the dry dock, three barges (stacked on top of one another) were floated underneath the OOS Serooskerke, between the pontoons.

Danish Maritime Authority Supports Maritime Cultural Days

The Danish Maritime Authority's buoy tender ’POUL LØWENØRN’ will be alongside in Korsør in connection with the Maritime Cultural Days. The vessel will be open to visitors throughout Saturday, 27 August. Safety of navigation is at the centre of the Maritime Cultural Days, and you can experience a variety of aspects of safety at sea if you visit the large buoy tender. On board the vessel will also be representatives of the ’SejlSikkert’ (safe navigation) campaign, which the Danish Pleasure Craft Safety Board is a part of. The vessel will be open on Saturday, 27 August, from 10:00 to 17:00 – the vessel will be alongside at the Service and Maintenance Centre on Søbatteriet 2 in Korsør.

Otto Marine Gets Acquisition Offer

After last week's media reports that an undisclosed party was looking to buy Singapores offshore marine company Otto Marine Limited, the company said that it received a proposal from RHB Securities Singapore Pte Ltd (RHB). RHB is the financial adviser to the potential offer. The name of the potential party who is looking to buy the company is undisclosed. If the acquisition materialises, Otto Marine may be the first in the struggling sector to be privatised. "On Sunday, June 5 2016, (Otto Marine) informed RHB that if no formal proposal is received by 5pm on June 6, pursuant to Chapter 13 of the Listing Rules, the company will proceed to lift the trading halt on its shares at the commencement of trading on June 7.

Ship Splits in Two Causes Massive Oil Slick in Taiwan

Authorities in Taiwan are trying to contain an oil spill from a grounded container ship which has split in two off the shore of New Taipei City. The 15,487-ton T.S. Taipei, owned by TS Lines, ran aground in a storm about 300 metres from the shore while it was sailing from Hong Kong to Keelung Port in Taiwan on March 10. "The engines of the ship stopped running on March 10. Cracks began appearing on the ship on Thursday, before it split in two," say local media. The ship split at about 5pm on Thursday, causing three shipping containers to fall off the deck, Coast Guard Administration captain Shen Wen-pin said. On Friday the ship broke apart, releasing heavy oil into the sea.

Tanker Blast Kills Four at Belawan Port

An explosion occurred on a tanker belonging to state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina on Monday evening while the ship was under repair at Belawan Port in North Sumatra, killing four workers. Three victims died on the spot, while the fourth worker died in a hospital succumbing to fatal injuries. Indonesia-flagged Palu Sipat, owned by the national oil company PT Pertamina, was docked at the port for repairs when it caught fire and exploded at 17:00 h local time. Belawan Port Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Aswin Sipayung said the tanker explosion took place as it was docked for repairs at Belawan Port on Monday afternoon. The cause of the explosion remains unknown, as investigators were not allowed to enter the explosion site due to safety concerns. "The ship is still full of gas.

ITIC Measures against Ebola

The International Transport Intermediaries Club (ITIC) has issued the following general advice related to the outbreak of Ebola. Vessels that have recently called in an affected country should contact their local agents prior to arrival at the next ports of call for the latest country specific advice regarding measures taken to avoid the spread of Ebola. ARGENTINA: Pilot companies rendering pilotage services in the River Plate have decided that their pilots will not board any vessel coming from the infected areas (Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone) until thirty days since the vessel sailed from last port of the infected areas. BENIN (Port of Cotonou): Vessels must notify the harbour master of the 10 previous ports of call 3 days before ETA.

WTO & World Bank to Support Trade Facilitation

The World Bank Group and the World Trade Organization (WTO) have agreed to enhance their co-operation in assisting developing and least-developed countries to better utilize trade facilitation programs which can help countries reduce trade costs and more fully engage in the global economy. Trade facilitation aims to reduce barriers developing countries now face moving goods quickly and cost effectively by increasing port efficiency, improving customs and regulatory environments, and upgrading infrastructure to increase trade exports. “Trade is a critical component to ending poverty and boosting shared prosperity and we are pleased to work with our partners at the WTO and other organizations to pursue these goals together,” said World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim.

Australian Patrol Boat Fire Yields 'Extensive Damage'

The Armidale Class Patrol Boat, HMAS Bundaberg, has suffered extensive damage following Monday’s fire in Brisbane while undergoing routine maintenance at Aluminium Boats Australia (ABA). The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service was quickly in attendance to deal with the incident. The intensity of the fire and difficulty of access was such that the fire was not extinguished until around 5pm. Early indications are that the fire started in the forward part of vessel and made it to the aft section, causing extensive damage throughout.

New Procedures for Guanabara Bay Olympic Sailing Event

Port Authorities at Rio de Janeiro are preparing to introduce new procedures for the upcoming Olympic Sailing event to be held in the south and east side of Guanabara Bay in July and August. Sailing teams from around the world will take part and the Brazilian Olympic Committee expecting over 450 craft will participate. Guanabara Bay will be closed for all type of navigation between 11am up to 5pm for both the first stage (28 July-2 August) and the second stage of the event (2-9 August). - There will be 15 alternative anchorage áreas at the Outer Anchorage. - Local navigation at north side of the bridge shall not be affected. Further instructions will be provided by the local Harbour Master in due course.

Kiel Canal Port Plan lock chamber closures at Kiel-Holtenau

The Kiel Canal Authority has announced that the Big South Lock Chamber at Kiel-Holtenau will be out of service between 07:00 and 17:00 hours from Tuesday 20 May until Thursday 22 May. During the closure times, the Big North Lock Chamber and the Small North Lock Chamber will remain in service. Further temporary closures are scheduled during week 23. Truck gates at Charleston's container terminals will be open on Friday, April 18th, 2014 with modified holiday work hours.   The interchange lanes and yard will be open from 0800 to 1200 and from 1300 to 1700. Empties, Dry Loads, and Chassis must be    Interchanged in by 1630. Trimaran Averaged 22 Knots to Win Transatlantic Race

Winning MOD70 Trimaran: Photo Transat Race

The seventy foot MOD70 trimaran 'Edmond de Rothschild', sailed by French duo Sebastien Josse and Charles Caudrelier broke the finish line of the 5450 miles Transat Jacques Vabre race this afternoon at 15hrs 03mins 57s local time (17h 03m 57h UTC GMT) to take overall line honours and win the MOD70 class. After starting from Le Havre on Thursday 7th November at 13hrs local time, Edmond de Rothschild took just 11 days, 5hours, 3 minutes and 54 second to cover the course. They sailed at a real average speed of 22.12kts for their actual distance that they sailed of 5952miles.

Egypt State of Emergency: Skuld P&I Situation Update

What is the consequence of violating the curfew 
- The curfew is enforced at strategic points by armed security (police/army) and it depends on the situation and persons, violators may be arrested. In case of emergencies it is recommended to contact the local correspondents for assistance if activity after curfew hours is necessary for some reason. Is it safe to travel between cities and ports - say for example if a crew changeover is being planned 
- Our correspondents advise that it is generally safe to travel between cities and ports during daytime, while safety during night is not guaranteed. Members may wish to consider whether to undertake crew change-overs in Egypt during the current period.

Delaware Port Community Supports 'Sandy' Victims

Delaware River Port Community schedule a one-day donation drive. Organizers from private and public sector port businesses and agencies throughout the tri-state region have scheduled a one-day donation drive for Saturday, November 17, 2012, from 8:00am – 5:00pm, to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. There are drop-off locations at Philadelphia's Wholesale Produce Market, Gloucester's Marine Terminal, and Wilmington's Chase Center on the Riverfront. The efforts will support several New Jersey charitable and relief organizations, such as the Salvation Army, and the United Way of Monmouth County. “We in the Delaware River Valley were extremely lucky that Sandy caused little to no damage in our area,” said Kurt Ferry, of Greenwich Terminals.

Seafarers' Trust Celebrates 30 Years With London Event

The ITF Seafarers’ Trust will celebrate its 30th birthday with a conference in London tomorrow exploring how best to provide for the welfare needs of the world’s seafarers in the 21st century. The event will share the experiences of the welfare community, unions and shipping industry, and explore new ways of helping seafarers. “The Trust has 30 years of experience to draw on and a superb network of people we’ve worked with who are leaders in this field, and many of them will be here tomorrow,” said Tom Holmer, administrative officer of the Seafarers’ Trust. “Legislative, social and technical factors mean that seafarers’ needs are changing, and we have to be ready to change to meet them.

Tug Delaware’s Restoration Underway at CBMM
