Sonardyne’s Ranger 2 Chosen for Pieter Schelte

Sonardyne’s Ranger 2 Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) acoustic positioning system has been selected by the Swiss-based Allseas Group for the world’s largest pipelay and platform installation/decommissioning vessel, Pieter Schelte. Ashtead Technology announce at the U.K.'s Ocean Business 2013 expo that it has purchased Sonardyne 6G acoustic positioning equipment value £1.3 million. This latest acquisition is the second significant order placed by the company for 6G in the last 12 months, further strengthening the Ashtead Technology fleet of Compatt 6 transponders, including various sound velocity, digiquartz and inclinometer sensors, GyroCompatts, RovNav 6LBL transceivers and both omni and directional Wideband Sub Mini transponders.

Sonardyne to Demo Research Vessel at Ocean Business 2013

Daily demonstrations are the key focus of Sonardyne International Ltd.’s presence at this year’s Ocean Business in Southampton. Taking place at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) from Tuesday 9th April to Thursday 11th April, Sonardyne’s trials and research vessel, Sound Surveyor, boasts a packed program schedule including Sprint INS, 6G multi-user acoustics and Solstice Side Scan Sonar. Inside on Sonardyne’s stand, E1, visitors will be able to explore technology for acoustic positioning, inertial navigation, sonar imaging and wireless communications.

Phoenix International Selects Sonardyne for Amelia Earhart Search

Following the discovery of a potential debris field at Amelia Earhart’s proposed crash site offshore Nikumaroro Island in the Western Pacific, Sonardyne International Ltd is now able to reveal that it’s Ranger 2 USBL tracking system together with a Lodestar GyroUSBL was the acoustic positioning technology of choice for the mission. Acoustic positioning technology from Sonardyne Inc, Houston, was selected to play a key role in a recent expedition aiming to solve one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century. A Bluefin Robotics AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) was equipped with a Sonardyne Ranger 2 underwater target tracking system which was used by The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) to search for the remains of the Lockhead Electra aircraft flown by Amelia Earhart during her failed circumnavigation attempt in 1937.

Sonardyne Receives SPRINT Order From Saipem

Sonardyne International Ltd. has received an order valued at over £2.1 million from international oil and gas turnkey contractor Saipem. The order includes six SPRINT systems and associated acoustic positioning equipment, making it Sonardyne’s largest sale of acoustically aided inertial navigation technology to date. SPRINT (Subsea Precision Reference Inertial Navigation Technology) will be deployed in April in the West Delta Deep Marine concession (WDDM). This natural gas field is situated about 90 kilometers offshore the North-West Nile Delta, at water depths between 400 and 1,000 meters.

Turbocharger Cut-off System

To meet the growing demand for running large container vessels on varying loads, MAN Diesel has developed a turbocharger cut-out system that improves main-engine performance during low-load operation. MAN Diesel’s Turbocharger Cut-Out System lowers main-engine fuel-oil consumption and improves performance during low-load operation. The system includes two, pneumatically operated cut-out valves placed at the turbine inlet and compressor outlet. Installation of the Turbocharger Cut-out system requires little time and MAN Diesel PrimeServ reports that with the right planning, off-hire can be avoided.
