MOL Sets up Smart Shipping Office

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced establishment of the Smart Shipping Office (the Office), effective December 1. $1.9 bln Shipping Rescue Package in Taiwan

Taiwanese government said it will provide 60 billion New Taiwan dollars ($1.9 billion) to support the country’s shipping industry, according to Reuters. The package, announced late Tuesday, involves a credit line with preferential interest rates aimed mainly to help Evergreen Marine Corp. and Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp., two of the world’s biggest container operators, says WSJ. NYK Scholarships Offered in China

During the month of November, NYK offered scholarships to 78 outstanding Chinese students in two universities in China. This was the 16th consecutive year for NYK to demonstrate its corporate social responsibility (CSR) through the company’s dedicated support of maritime education. On November 16, an awards ceremony was held at Dalian Maritime University (DMU), where 42 students were recognized for their academic excellence and fine demeanor. They were encouraged to develop themselves into socially responsible and intelligent young Chinese filled with an international vision.

Hagenuk Comms Systems for 3rd Combat Support Ship

Hagenuk Marinekommunikation GmbH (HMK), a subsidiary of Atlas Elektronik, is also equipping the 3rd combat support ship (EGV) of the German Navy with its communication system. A contract to this effect was signed recently with the consortium for the Class 702, 2nd batch. HMK will be responsible for the complete integration, installation and setting-to-work of the integrated communication system for the Class 702 replenishment ships; this includes the entire radio equipment for external radio communications as well as the internal communication system. The communication system features the latest technologies, such as HF broadband antenna systems, adaptive radio techniques, on-board network (LAN) and wireless internal communication.

ENSCO, RigNet Renew Contract

RigNet Inc., a privately held provider of managed communications services to the oil and gas industry, announced it has renewed its contract with ENSCO Offshore Company to provide voice and high-speed data services to ENSCO's fleet-wide drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico. As part of this renewal, RigNet will now be the sole communications provider for ENSCO's Gulf of Mexico fleet, replacing Caprock Communications who had provided satellite communications. As part of the agreement with ENSCO, the RigNet communications solution will continue to be available on each of ENSCO's 19 rigs operating in this region. (Source: Houston Chronicle)

Andersen Named Head of Corporate Communications for Aker

Torbjørn Andersen has been employed as head of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations in Aker Yards. Andersen comes from a position as head of Corporate Communications in Aker Kværner. Tore Langballe, head of Corporate Communications and IR has accepted a position as SVP Corporate Communications in PGS ASA. He will be succeeded by Mr Torbjørn Andersen. Andersen was head of Corporate Communications in Aker Kvaerner until 31 December 2007. Mr. Langballe has been with Aker Yards since 2004.

Marlink Signs Deal with Kyma

OSLO, Norway and ROCKVILLE, Maryland (October 27, 2003) - Marlink today announced that it has signed a five-year agreement with the owners of the MV Mona Lisa, represented by Kyma Ship Management, Inc. of Miami, Florida, to provide complete satellite communications onboard the vessel. The agreement calls for Marlink, a company within Telenor Satellite Services formed to serve as the preferred interface between maritime customers and the satellite communications industry, to provide Sealink high-speed communications service. Operating at speeds up to 2 Megabits per second, the Sealink solution allows guests and crew to enjoy greater access to the Internet, e-mail, fax services, and telephone service.

ICG Helps Optimize Passenger Calling Services

The cruise line industry had a problem with optimizing passenger calling services. The requirements to any solution presented were to replicate the automation and conveniences offered by a contemporary business hotel and to make the billing and accounting functions automatic and accurate. Many of the large cruise lines came to ICG with their requirements because of the expertise acquired through years of providing communications management and control solutions to the commercial shipping and general aviation industries. ICG was tasked to provide a multi-medium communications control and switching center and to provide an accounting platform to account for every outbound call, whether it was revenue bearing or an expense.

Suez Canal Authority Goes for Major Communications Upgrade

Provider of business collaboration and communication solutions, Avaya, says it has signed a major deal with Cairo ICT 2013, which enables the Suez Canal Authority to move their full 15,000 communications ports to Avaya Aura® Communication Manager. In a move towards complete unified communications the Suez Canal Authority will be able to  improve employee mobility, centralizing the communications network with Modular Messaging technology that can 'find' employees and coordinates messaging across sms, email and voice services.

Rune Olav Pedersen Takes Over Corporate Communications in PGS

PGS' General Counsel Rune Olav Pedersen's role is expanded to also include the following departments from Corporate communications; investor relations (IR), internal and external communications, corporate marketing and customer relations. He will now have the position General Counsel and SVP Communications and Marketing and will continue to report to CEO Jon Erik Reinhardsen. Bård Stenberg is appointed VP Corporate Communications, responsible for IR, external and internal communications and will report to Rune Olav Pedersen. These organizational changes have been made following Tore D. Langballe announcing he will be leaving PGS to take a position as SVP Corporate Communications and IR, and Chief of Staff in Akastor ASA, an Aker-owned company.

Satlink Signs on with Fleet Xpress, FleetBroadband

SpeedCast Introduces SIGMA Net

Satellite communications and network service provider SpeedCast International Limited has announced the official release of SIGMA Net shipping and remote site network management designed specifically for VSAT and MSS. SIGMA Net is a small but powerful industrial-grade VSAT and MSS network management device designed for ships and remote sites, providing automated and efficient management of multiple WAN links. Cyber security is at the heart of SIGMA Net, which incorporates a stateful firewall and Virtual Private Networking between the vessel and the Internet plus unique methods to regulate Internet access, including rejection of update services to Windows or mobile devices.

L-3 Henschel Wins Sub Contract

L-3 Communications SPD Technologies group said its Henschel business unit has been awarded a contract to provide the integrated communication system (ICS) for the next six VIRGINIA-class (SSN774) submarines. "The integrated communication system award builds on our strong relationship with General Dynamics Electric Boat Division," said Don Roussinos, president of L-3 Communications Henschel. "The multi-year contract ensures we provide Electric Boat the best value for the Virginia-class submarines."

MTN Provides VSAT to Crystal Cruises

MTN Satellite Communications (MTN), global service provider of communications, connectivity, and content services to remote locations around the world, announced that it has been awarded a five-year contract extension with Crystal Cruises to provide its VSAT satellite communication services. According to Brent Horwitz, senior vice president, MTN cruise and ferry services, MTN will continue providing a full range of satellite communication services for guests and crew, including onboard cellular phone service, OceanPhone crew calling, inbound dialing, and MTN Worldwide TV. Telenor Purchases GMPCS Personal Communications

Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway purchased GMPCS Personal communications, Inc., based in Pompano Beach, Florida. Founded in 1996, GMPCS Personal Communications is a full service provider of global mobile personal communications via satellite. The company is a supplier of equipment, accessories, and value-added solutions and serves many Fortune 500 and Global 1000 corporations. The company realized revenues in excess of $23 million in 2003, a growth of more than 60 percent over 2002 figures.

Marlink Launches Broadband Global Area Network Service

Marlink today announced that it now offers a full range of Inmarsat services for customers requiring flexible and efficient land mobile communications over satellite. Telenor Signs PGS Geophysical for 2 Years

Telenor Satellite Services announced that PGS Geophysical of Norway has renewed its global satellite communications agreement with Telenor through June 2005. Telenor first began providing communications via satellite to PGS in 1995. The current agreement calls for Telenor to continue to provide its fully-managed Sealink service to a PGS Geophysical fleet of 14 high tech 3D seismic vessels operating around the world. PGS Geophysical acquires, processes, markets, and sells high quality seismic data worldwide.
