Donjon Marine Tows Disabled LNG Carrier

Donjon Marine Co., Inc. provided the 7000hp salvage tug Atlantic Salvor to assist the (LNG) tanker Catalunya Spirit, which lost propulsion and became disabled and adrift East of Cape Cod in February. Donjon Marine Recovers Robert R. Woodington Dredge

On May 20, 2011, Donjon Marine Co., Inc. contracted with the owners of the 42-ft cutter head suction dredge Robert R. Woodington to recover the cutterhead/ladder which was buried to a depth of 100 feet as a result of an underwater cave-in that occurred while recovering sand from an in-land sand pit. The cutterhead/ladder was covered by more than 70 feet of sand and clay mix. Donjon’s work plan was to mobilize a sectional barge equipped with a crane capable of handling a four cubic yard digging bucket, a 10-person salvage team including five salvage divers, and air-lift and jetting equipment.

Donjon Assists in USS America Tow Out

Donjon Marine Co., Inc., a provider if multi-faceted marine services including marine salvage, ocean and inland towing, emergency response, and dredging, provided towing and logistical support thru its U.S. Navy Salvage and Related services contract, in the towing out to sea of the Navy’s USS America, the third Kitty Hawk-class attack aircraft carrier on April 19. The Navy will conduct tests on the carrier, commissioned in 1965, for a number of weeks and then the ship will be sunk. Donjon coordinated the movement of the USS America from its lay berth located in the Philadelphia Naval Yard, thru the Delaware River to the open ocean where the vessel was towed by Donjon’s 7000-Horse Power Atlantic Salvor and 8000-Horse Power Powhatan to the Project site.

Navy Taps Donjon for Salvage Services

Donjon Marine Co., Inc. has been awarded a $41 million-dollar, ceiling-priced, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-award-fee contract for marine salvage, salvage-related towing, harbor clearance, ocean engineering and point-to-point towing services to support the U.S. Navy’s Director of Ocean Engineering, Supervisor of Salvage and Diving. In addition to the salvage component of this services agreement, Donjon was also awarded a contract to supply the U.S. Navy with Engineering Support Services on a worldwide basis. These contracts were competitively procured, with the Naval Sea Systems Command reviewing all submitted proposals. “Donjon is very pleased to continue to partner with the U.S. Navy as its commercial marine salvage and engineering support contractor,” said J.

Donjon Marine Participates in FiFi Exercise

Donjon Marine Co., Inc. was invited by the State Fire Marshall and the Director of the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety to participate in an exercise conducted by members of the Union and Morris County Fire Services to test and showcase the capabilities of a portable marine firefighting system known as Neptune/Iron Man. On May 26, at Donjon’s Berth 22 Port Newark Facility, Donjon loaded the Neptune/Iron Man firefighting system onto Donjon’s newly built 225 x 54 x 14-ft. deck barge, the Witte 254, along with necessary support equipment including a forklift, rigging, and matting to move the gear during the exercise. On May 27, Donjon’s tug Atlantic Salvor took the Witte 254 and associated gear into Newark Bay where the fire-fighting system was tested successfully.

DonJon Marine Completes Atlantic Traveler Salvage

On May 11, the 70-ft fishing boat Atlantic Traveler sank after hitting the South Jetty of Manasquan Inlet off Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. Three crewmen onboard were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. The vessel sank outside the south Jetty in an Ocean Environment in an upside down position. After more than three weeks of inclement weather, Donjon  Marine was able to mobilize its 400-ton capacity Derrick barge Columbia, NY  from its home base in Port Newark, New Jersey to perform the wreck removal  of the vessel.

Donjon Marine Salvages, Redelivers Royal Miss Belmar

On July 25th, Donjon Marine Co., Inc. was awarded a contract to salvage and return to owners the 100-foot passenger ferry Royal Miss Belmar, which grounded on approach to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, on July 4th. Donjon mobilized its 400-ton capacity derrick barge Columbia, NY to the site with its 3000-HP tug Mary Alice to lift the vessel from its grounded position. The recovered vessel was then loaded onto the deck of the Columbia, NY, lashed for seaworthiness, and successfully delivered to Savannah, Georgia, where the vessel was trans-loaded to a local shipyard facility for repair.

Donjon Salvages Sunken Barge

Erie, Pennsylvania shipyard, Donjon Shipbuilding & Repair, reported that Seabulk Tankers has placed an order with them for a petroleum and chemical barge. The wholly owned subsidiary of Donjon Marine Co. Inc. whose main office is in Hillside, N.J., said they have entered into a contract with Seabulk Tankers to construct one 185,000 barrel coastal petroleum and chemical barge, which will become the barge component of an Articulated Tug and Barge (ATB) unit. Donjon Refloats NY Car Ferry

Donjon Marine’s 1000-ton capacity Derrick Barge Chesapeake 1000 works to refloat the 277-foot Ex-Staten Island NY Car Ferry Gov. Herbert H. Lehman, which sank in the Hudson River while in layup in Newburg, NY.

After a competitive bidding process, in late March 2012 Donjon Marine was awarded a job to refloat the 277-foot Ex-Staten Island, NY car ferry Gov. Herbert H. Lehman. The vessel sank in the Hudson River while in layup in Newburg, NY. After almost four weeks of patching and test-pumping the submerged hull, and with the use of Donjon’s 1000-ton capacity Derrick Barge Chesapeake 1000 to stabilize the vessel during refloating, the ferry was successfully refloated and returned to owners.

DONJON Contracted to Salvage Tugboat Pair

Donjon Marine Co., Inc., a provider of multi-faceted marine services including marine salvage, heavy lift, dredging and related emergency response services, was contracted under a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) by the U.S. Coast Guard to provide emergency salvage services for two tugboats that sank on July 28, 2008 at a pier adjacent to the Schuylkill River near the Girard Point Bridge outside Philadelphia, PA. At the time of the sinking of the Scooby Doo and Big Boy, reportedly more than 2,000 gallons of petroleum based contaminants were released into the water. Divers have reduced the out flow from the tugs but due to the condition of the vessels, the flow cannot be stopped until the vessels are salvaged.

Donjon Awarded Navy Salvage Tug Lease

The U.S. Navy has awarded Donjon Marine Co. Inc. a five-year lease of tug USNS Powhatan. The multi-purpose tug can conduct long-distance tows and when augmented with additional crew and equipment, operate in support of fire fighting, diving and salvage missions. Minor modifications will be made to the vessel, including changing the paint scheme to Donjon's standard blue as well as reconfiguring the wheelhouse to make it more "merchant marine user friendly". The lease of the vessel is part of Donjon Marine's plan for steady expansion into the international salvage and salvage related towing industry. USNS Powhatan will join a fleet of coastal and ocean towing vessels, crane barges, dredges, crew boats, deck barges and assorted salvage equipment.

Salvage Tug Completes Frigate Tows

Donjon Marine's 7,200 hp salvage tug Powhatan deliverd the fourth and final ex-U.S. Navy frigate to the Turkish Governement. Donjon Marine had been contracted last year to tow the frigates ? three in Philadelphia and one in Charleston, S.C. - and deliver them to the Turks in the Sea of Marmara. Each frigate (414 x 44 x 24 ft.) was towed by the company's 225 ft. U.S. flag salvage tug, the largest such salvage tug operating under the U.S. flag. The third frigate was towed across the Atlantic Ocean by Donjon's tug Atlantic Salvor, a 6,480 hp ocean tug.

O’Hern Joins Donjon Shipbuilding Team

Patrick J. O’Hern has joined Donjon Marine Co., Inc.’s Shipbuilding and Repair as a consultant. He brings more than 35 years of shipyard experience in the Great Lakes region to this position as a result of his longtime employment at Bay Shipbuilding Company located in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., where he last served as Vice President and General Manager.   “We are pleased to announce the addition of Pat O’Hern and we welcome his experience and history of success to the Donjon management team.  Under Pat's leadership, many vessels constructed within the Great Lakes were built specifically for a number of coastal markets, so his success in both fresh and salt water markets is noteworthy,"  said J. Seacor and Donjon Christen Erie-Built Tug-Barge Unit

Erie, Pa. – Seajon LLC, a partnership between Seacor Holdings Inc. and Donjon Marine Co. Inc., held an open house and christening of the 34,000-ton capacity self-unloading articulated tug and barge (ATB) Ken Boothe Sr. and Lakes Contender. This ATB is the first of its kind to be built in Erie, Pennsylvania, since 1972. Donjon reopened the yard in December, 2009. Donjon Marine And Turkish Navy Team Up

Donjon Marine and the Turkish Navy entered into an agreement to tow four ex-U.S. navy frigates from the East Coast of the U.S. to Golcuk, Turkey. The first, ex-USNS Miller measuring 414 x 44 x 24 ft. (126.1 x 13.4 x 7.3 m), began its voyage under tow by Donjon's 7,200-hp salvage tug Powhatan last July, for a scheduled arrival in Turkey this month. From there, Powhatan will return to the U.S. to retrieve the second frigate in Charleston, S.C., while the remaining two frigates are being held at the Philadelphia Naval Yard.

Donjon Marine Salvages Dinner Cruise Vessel

Donjon Marine, Co., Inc. salvaged the dinner cruise vessel Sunset Queen, which sank on January 28, 2007, alongside one of the Municipal Piers located in Sheepshead Bay, New York, in about 20 ft. of water. The Sunset Queen is approximately 100 ft. long and 30 ft. wide with a light ship weight of approximately 200 tons. The salvage effort, considered a pick and pump operation, involves lifting the vessel to the surface with the use of the 400-ton capacity Donjon Derrick Barge Columbia New York, where the vessel is then pumped free of water with the use of portable pumping systems and subsequently refloated. Upon successful re-floating, the vessel will be delivered to owners at Mays Shipyard located in Staten Island, New York, for survey and repair work.

American Salvage Association Announces Incoming Slate of Leaders

Donjon Purchases Tug

New Donjon Tug, Meagan Ann, formerly Scorpius

Donjon Marine Co., Inc., a provider of multi-faceted marine services including marine salvage, heavy lift, dredging and related emergency response services, has purchased the tugboat, the 81-ft.Meagan Ann, formerly the Scorpius, from Constellation Maritime, a subsidiary of Foss Maritime.  The Meagan Ann is a twin-engine, 2,250 hp coastal towing tug, built in 1975 and rebuilt in 1988. The Meagan Ann will join Donjon’s tug fleet and support its marine transportation and dredging operations.

Donjon Work on M/V Fedra Continues
