KS Appoint Mark Cencer to Coastal Engineering Group

KS Associates, Inc., a civil engineering and land surveying firm located in Elyria, Ohio, has appointed Mark P. Cencer, P.E., to the firm’s Coastal Engineering Group. The Group provides engineering solutions for all types of waterfront and water-related infrastructure, helping clients plan, design and manage the construction of projects along Lake Erie and its watershed. Cencer is a Professional Engineer licensed in Ohio and Florida and has more than eight years of experience in marine engineering.

South Korea Shipyard Stocks Surge

According to a report from Bloomberg, Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. (009540 KS) surged 11% percent after receiving an order for two LNG ships Dynagas Ltd. of Greece, Samsung Heavy Industries Co. (010140 KS) gained 1.8% after it won a $3b order to build a FPSO facility for Shell Development Pty Ltd., Daewoo Shipbuilding (042660 KS) rose 1.8% and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (010620 KS) rose 3.5%.     (Source: Bloomberg)  

Seoul Shares Rise; STX Shipbuilding Surges

Seoul shares closed 2.3 percent up earlier this week, their biggest daily percentage gain in three weeks, as STX Shipbuilding surged after buying a stake in a Norwegian ship builder, while Apple's strong results boosted tech stocks, according to a Reuters report. STX Shipbuilding Co (067250.KS) surged by the daily limit of 15 percent to $74.17 after it announced the purchase of a 39.2 percent stake in Norway's Aker Yards (AKY.OL) for $800m, a move analysts said underlined its commitment to fast expansion and would bolster networks in Europe. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) (.KS11) gained 2.3 percent to 1,947.98, staging a strong rebound a day after slumping 3.4 percent to its lowest close in more than a month.

Marlink Provides Sealink to Atlantic Oilfield Services

Marlink, global provider of maritime satellite communications, has recently confirmed delivery and installation of its Sealink VSAT solution on the Atlantic Oilfield Services oil & gas support unit KS Titan 2. Chartered by Exxon Mobil, KS Titan 2 is the second Atlantic Oilfield Services rig to be installed with Marlink's Sealink system. "Since its installation, the crew have been very satisfied with Marlink's Sealink VSAT. The system provides always-on, reliable connectivity which is essential to meet the modern demands of the digital oilfield.

POSCO, Hanwha Seen Bidding for Daewoo Int'l

Seoul Shares Up 0.5 pct, Shipyards Gain

According to a Sept 15 report from Reuters, Seoul shares edged up on Wednesday helped by firm gains in shipbuilders such as Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd (009540.KS), but falls in retailers and banks such as Shinhan Financial Group Co Ltd (055550.KS) weighed. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index .KS11 (KOSPI) ended up 0.48 percent at 1,823.88 points. Kim Seong-bong, a market analyst at Samsung Securities told Reuters that the company is seeing a lot of equity redemption by fundholders at the index's current level, and this will pressure the market for some time. WSDOT Christens New Ferry Chimacum

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) christened Chimacum, the third Olympic Class vessel to join the Washington State Ferries (WSF) fleet. The ceremony took place at Vigor's Harbor Island Shipyard in Seattle, and marked the vessel’s final stage of construction and its preparation for sea trials. Pakistan Shipyard Cuts Keel of Navy Tugboat

Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW) say they have cut the keel of a 12-Ton Bollard Pull Pusher Tug being built for the Pakistan Navy at a ceremony attended in the shipyard by officials & dignitaries from Pakistan Navy, Government Authorities and KS&EW. Solstad Offshore Sells Vessels

Norwegian offshore shipping company Solstad Offshore ASA said on Monday (26 May) that its 71.1%-owned ship-owning subsidiary Normand Skarven KS has agreed to sell its anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel Normand Skarven to foreign buyers.  The sales price for the 1986-built vessel was said to be "around its average broker value as per 31.12.2007" and to result in a gain of approximately NOK130m for Solstad Offshore.Solstad Offshore on Monday also said that its 50%-owned subsidiary Nor Offshore Ltd has agreed to sell the AHTS Nor Sea to Neptun Marine Services Ltd. McDonough Launch First of Seven Spud Barges

McDonough Marine Service has launched the first in a series of seven new inland spud barges. The spud barges are being constructed at Yager Marine Industries in Owensboro, Kentucky and range from 110’ to 140’ in length. The first of the series to be launched is the KS 4011 with the dimensions of 110’ x 40’ x 7’6”. The barge was designed with a boxed stern that provides maximum flotation during crane operations. This design provides operators an opportunity to work safely in the inland marine construction environment, McDonough said.

Aker Yards to Build PSV for Island Offshore

Aker Yards has signed a contract with Island Offshore VIII KS, a company within the Island Offshore Group in Ulsteinvik, Norway, to deliver a UT 755 LN platform supply vessel. This is the 17th contract between the shipowner, Island Offshore in Ulsteinvik and Aker Yards. The hull for the platform supply vessel will be built in Romania and the vessel will be outfitted in Brevik. Delivery is scheduled for September 2007.

Norwegians to Build IMT Field Support Vessels in Russia

Norway's KS North Sea Rescue AS has chosen an IMT 955-N design for a series of six Field Support Vessels to be built at the Yaroslavsky Shipbuilding Plant, Russia. The vessels are a modified version of the IMT Marine Consultants IMT 955 design of which nine are currently building at Astilleros Zamakona, Spain, for Vroon Offshore. The Russian-built vessels will be operated by Stavanger-based Simon Møkster Shipping AS. The deal to choose a UK design to build at a Russian yard was brokered by Norwegian brokers Fearnleys, and the deal includes all equipment, which will be supplied through Russian firm VMF Shipping. Teekay Sign Yamal Charter for Newbuild

Teekay LNG Partners L.P. has entered into a 15-year time-charter contract with the Yamal LNG project, sponsored by Novatek OAO, Total SA, China National Petroleum Corporation and Silk Road Fund, to provide Yamal LNG with conventional liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation services. Yamal LNG is scheduled to commence production in 2017. The fixed-rate time-charter contract will be serviced by one of Teekay LNG's previously unchartered 174,000 cubic meter MEGI LNG carrier newbuildings that is scheduled for delivery in early-2019. IOS To Purchase of Platform Supply Vessel

P/R International Offshore Services ANS (IOS), which is a 50/50 joint venture between Farstad Shipping ASA and P & O Australia has entered into an agreement to purchase a platform supply vessel, design UT 755L, from Consensus Foss KS (Det Nordenfjeldske Dampskipsselskap). The vessel is under construction at Aker Brattvaag. IOS will formally take over the vessel immediately after delivery from the yard in December 2002. After the delivery of the above vessel IOS will operate a fleet of 17 vessels and have three vessels on order for delivery in 2003.

Hyundai Heavy Q3 Profit Drops
