IPC Begins Drilling Program in Malaysia

The oil and gas exploration and production company International Petroleum Corporation (IPC) has commenced drilling the first well in a planned multi-well drilling program on Block PM307, located offshore Peninsular Malaysia.Canada-based IPC is the operator of Block PM307 and holds a 75% working interest, with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd holding the remaining 25% working interest.The PM307 drilling program is planned to consist of two infill landing pilot wells in the south-eastern and north-eastern areas of the Bertam field, followed by the Keruing exploration well and three Bertam field infill wells, IPC said in a press release.The first pilot well will test the upside potential in the northeastern A15 area…

DNV GL Presents AIP for ‘LNG Ready’ Mega Box Ships

Wednesday at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg, DNV GL presented Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) with an Approval in Principle (AIP), recognizing the technical feasibility of the LNG fuel system design for the A14 and A18 series of container vessels. Tor Svensen, CEO of DNV GL Maritime, made the presentation to Oi Hyun Kim, CEO and COO of HHI’s Shipbuilding Division, and Waleed Al Dawood, COO of United Arab Shipping Company, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Ali Bin Jassim Al Thani, UASC Board Member.

A Tidal Wave of New Regulations

The management ballast water discharges began with the enactment of the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act of 1990 (NANPCA) as an effort to prevent the introduction of additional invasive species into the Great Lakes. Since then, NANPCA was amended by the National Invasive Species Act of 1996 and the issue has progressed over the intervening years to a much larger campaign to regulate all vessel discharges into U.S. waters. Ballast water management has been the subject of litigation, regulation, and legislation at the state and federal level.

Safety/Patrol Boat Updates

The tubes surrounding and supporting the boat are made from 1670 decitex Hypalon/Neoprene fabric. The A12, A13, A14 and A15 Profile models are designed for professional applications, such as rescue, police, fire, coast guard and military operations. Workskiff Inc. recently received acceptance from the U.S. Navy for delivery of boats to be used in the homeland defense effort. Workskiff was awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of the Navy for nine harbor security boats, boats that will be used in support of harbor security forces at Navy facilities and adjacent waterways.

The rugged, 3.28-mil hulls are lighter than comparable fiberglass hulls and are perfectly suited for operating in lakes and rivers or along rocky coastlines. In these environments, the aluminum bottoms also help resist abrasions from coral and sandy beaches. An extra air chamber between the hull and the floor keeps the Profile models buoyant even when flooded. The large-diameter tubes of the boats are made from 1670 decitex Hypalon/Neoprene fabric.
