New Container Shipping Company Launched in Saudi Arabia

A new container shipping line has been launched in Saudi Arabia.The newly formed company, Folk Maritime, will provide feeder vessel and short-sea shipping services in the Middle East and the surrounding region.The Riyadh-headquartered company is led by CEO Poul Hestbaek, who previously served as CEO of Maersk's Hamburg Sud.Other executives include chief commercial officer Saleem Kadernani, chief financial officer Khalid Fawzi and chief human resources officer Abdulrahman Alshangiti.

Indonesian Ferry Turns Floating Isolation Center for COVID-19 patients

Asyad Looks Abroad for Possible Expansion

Mesaieed Shipyard Adds Floating Dry Dock

Qatari maritime transport and logistics conglomerate Milaha said it has acquired a new floating dry dock as part of ongoing upgrade and modernization work underway at its shipyard facilities.The dock is set to arrive at the group’s Mesaieed Shipyard in the coming months and will be fully operational in the second half of this year to support local government and commercial clients in the maritime and oil and gas sectors.Milaha president and CEO, Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai said the dock will be able to accommodate vessels up to 230 meters in length and up to 30,000 metric tons lifting capacity.

Oman Shipping Orders 3 VLCCs at DSME

Oman Shipping Company (OSC), a member of the ASYAD Group, has signed an agreement for the construction of three very large crude carriers (VLCCs) with South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).The triple 300,000 dwt vessels are expected for delivery during the first quarter of 2020. OSC will charter out the vessels to oil majors under long-term contracts.OSC said the three 300,000 dwt VLCCs were part of OSC’s fleet renewal plan and long term contracts with oil majors were already in place for the vessels.Each of the vessels will be 336-meters-long and 60-meters-wide and will be able to hold 300,000 tons of cargo.

Milaha Net Profit Up 10%

Qatar-based maritime transport and logistics company Qatar Navigation (Milaha) reported  a 10% rise in its net profit  for the twelve months ended December 31, 2018.The Middle East maritime and logistics company delivered a net profit of QAR 516 million (USD 141.7 million) for the twelve months ended December 31, 2018, compared to QAR 470 million for the same period in 2017.“We are pleased with the year-on-year improvement in performance. Hapag-Lloyd AGM Okays All Proposed Resolutions

Hapag-Lloyd AG shareholders approved with the required majority all items on the agenda put to a vote at the Annual General Meeting in Hamburg. This included an agreement upon the use of the net profit (item 2) and thereby the payment of a dividend of EUR 0.57 per share. Milaha Rolls Out Qatar-Iraq Direct Container Feeder Service

Qatar-based maritime transport and logistics conglomerate Milaha has announced the launch of a direct container feeder service between Qatar and Iraq. The new service, which will be an expansion of the existing Qatar-Kuwait service that the company launched last year, will follow a Hamad Port-Umm Qasr (Iraq)-Shuwaikh (Kuwait)-Hamad Port rotation, and will be initially served by one vessel with a 1,015 TEU capacity and 110 reefer plugs. The service will have a transit time of 2 days, making it particularly ideal for dry and refrigerated food stuff, consumer electronics, and construction materials, among other cargo. Milaha Acquires its Largest Containership

Qatar-based maritime and logistics conglomerate Milaha said it has acquired its largest container vessel to date, Majd, a 3,768 TEU vessel. Majd was built by STX Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in South Korea, and has a length overall of 246.87 meters and a deadweight of 44,985 metric tons. 32 VLCCs to Fly Saudi Arabia’s Flag

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) said that the Public Transport Authority (PTA) has completed the registration of Amjad, a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) owned and operated by Bahri, under the flag of Saudi Arabia. Bahri, Hyundai Heavy Pact for Big Data Initiatives

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri)  has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group to harness Big Data and technological innovation in the maritime industry. HHI Group is the world’s largest shipbuilding group with extensive experience in ship construction and shipyard management. Qatar Navigation Profit Falls in Q2 and H1

Qatar Navigation (Milaha) reported an 85 percent fall in second-quarter net profit, reports Reuters. Second-quarter net profit stood at 30.8 million riyals ($8.5 million) in the three months ending June 30, versus 201.4 million riyals a year earlier. Milaha has also reported a net profit of QR267 million for the six months (H1) ended June 30, 2017, compared to QR553 million for the same period in 2016. The report said that the company is hurt by a global marine downturn and regional sanctions. “We are in the midst of an unusually prolonged global downturn across most marine sectors. However, we remain financially strong and will continue to invest prudently for the long term,” Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Milaha’s Board of Directors, said.

Following the announcement of the joint venture agreement by Bahri, a global leader in transportation and logistics, and Koninklijke Bunge, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bunge Limited, a global agribusiness and food company, the two companies recently inaugurated the offices of BahriBunge Dry Bulk Ltd. in Dubai, UAE. Milaha Rolls Out Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Feeder Service

Qatar-based maritime transport and logistics conglomerate Milaha is launching a direct feeder service between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. "Milaha has announced the launch of a direct feeder service between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Colombo and Chittagong will be the 7th and 8th new ports of call for Milaha this year, and is part of the significant service expansion since the beginning of 2017," says a statement from the company. The new service, called BCX, will be operated via two vessels of effective capacity 1,200 TEUs, and will start in the second half of November, following a Colombo-Chittagong-Colombo rotation with a transit time of 5 days. The service will cater to the general consumer goods and garments industry in Bangladesh, a high growth market.

Saudi Arabian maritime transport and logistics company Bahri has appointed Abdullah Aldubaikhi as its new chief executive office. Aldubaikhi’s appointment, which takes effect January 1, 2018, comes as the company gears for a new phase of expansion following several months of growth, according to Bahri chairman, Abdulrahman M. Al-Mofadhi. Aldubaikhi joins Bahri from Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC), where he served as CEO for six years. He previously held senior management roles at several firms, including Afwaf Investment, Awalnet and DowLog Technology Company.
