BIMSTEC to Promote Coastal Shipping

Member States of BIMSTEC ( Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation ) met in New Delhi this week to discuss modalities for promoting coastal shipping in the region. BIMSTEC member countries include India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Nepal. In this first meeting of the Working Group on 27th and 28th of November, member countries discussed the draft text of BIMSTEC Coastal Shipping Agreement drafted by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. The objective of the above agreement is to facilitate coastal shipping in the region, thereby giving a boost to trade between the member countries. The agreement would apply to coastal shipping, that is shipping within 20 nautical miles of the coastline.

India to Showcase 200 Projects in Maritime India Summit

The Ministry of Shipping, India  will showcase all its investable opportunities  to domestic and global investors in the first-ever Maritime India Summit (MIS) to be held in Mumbai from April 14-16, 2016. The 200 projects comprise 20 projects per port and together have a US $ 6 billion investment potential. The projects will range from ports- and ship-led development to projects pertaining to connectivity and logistics. Smart cities have been conceptualised at Kandla and Paradeep. The ministry’s deputy secretary, Abhishek Chandra, said: "For ship building, South Korea is our proposed partner country since they have a high degree of expertise in this field. We have commissioned 25 new projects in hinterland connectivity. The summit would be held in Mumbai from April 14-16.

Maritime India Summit Road Show Kick Starts

Kolkata, 3rd Feb, 2016: Industry leaders, corporate heads, policy makers and senior executives took part in the very first road show which served as a run up to the Maritime India Summit’16. Maritime India Summit is being organized by the Ministry of Shipping at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Mumbai. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has kindly consented to inaugurate the Summit on 14 April 2016. This event will comprise of an Investors’ Summit and an Exhibition. The Investors’ Summit will be held on 14 - 15 April 2016 whereas the Exhibition and Demo Sessions have been planned for three days i.e. 14 - 16 April 2016.
