Police Step Up Security Around Adani Port in India's Kerala after Clashes

Police in southern India on Tuesday ramped up security around the $900 million transhipment port being built by billionaire Gautam Adani's conglomerate after scores of people were injured in clashes with protesters from a Christian fishing community.Construction at the mega port project in Vizhinjam on the southern tip of India has been halted for more than three months by the protesters, who have blocked the site's entrance with a makeshift shelter. They blame the port's development for coastal erosion that has hit their livelihoods, an accusation the Adani Group denies.

Adani Ports Eyeing Acquisitions

India’s biggest private port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ)  is actively looking at acquisitions to complete its “string of pearls” ports strategy, reports Livemint. CEO Karan Adani is leading the drive, it adds. In India, Adani Port is looking to expand its presence in Maharashtra and West Bengal, according to the paper. In overseas markets, the company is scouting for opportunities in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the US and Europe, apart from the ports planned in Australia. “The overall objective is to make the group a trans-shipment port company,” one company executive has been quoted as saying. Some of the company’s key acquisitions so far include Vizhinjam port in Kerala and Dhamra port in Odisha.

Adani Ports to Expand Terminal with MSC

Adani Group turns its flagship port and India’s biggest commercial port at Mundra in Gujarat into a regional transhipment hub by partnering with Terminal Investment Ltd SA, the container terminal operating company majority owned by Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Co. SA (MSC), the world’s second biggest container shipping line. Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd (APSEZL), part of the Adani Group, said it will expand its existing terminal International Container Terminal Private Limited (AICTPL) at Mundra port to develop it into a transshipment hub. AICTPL is a 50:50 joint venture with Terminal Investment Ltd. "The expansion is being carried out to create a transhipment hub for the Middle East, South Asia and India.

Boxco Moves Longest Column through Mumbai Port

Boxco Logistics has set the bar high yet again, by moving the LONGEST COLUMN EVER that was transported in and out of Mumbai Port. It all started in the industrial township of Dahej in the state of Gujarat at ISGEC Heavy Engineering’s manufacturing plant. The multimodal logistics, involving engineering and execution of transporting the equipment from Dahej to Mumbai for further export to Mexico, were carried by the team at Boxco Logistics. Apart from the C2 Splitter, a 380 MT Quench water tower and a 250 MTDemethaniserwere also to be transported along with their accessories. The transportation of the columns from ISGEC plant to Adani port was a challenge for C2 Splitter which measured 91 m x 9.5 m x 9 m in dimensions.

East Coast India Ports Climb in the Ring: Analysis

Adani Ports has acquired an interest in Dhamra Port, situated between the major ports of Haldia and Paradip. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone recently announced the much-anticipated acquisition of Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL), a joint and equal ownership by Larsen and Toubro and Tata Steel. DPCL is a concessionaire at Dhamra Port (in the state of Odisha on the east coast of India) and has been entrusted with the responsibility of building and operating a multi-user, multi-cargo port. DPCL holds a 34-year concession which can be renewed for two additional 10-year periods. Adani Port reportedly had been awaiting environmental clearances (received early this year) for Phase 2 expansion at the port and has also been serving as management consultants to the port.
