The Saudi-led military coalition fighting against the Houthi movement in Yemen said on Wednesday it would allow aid access through the port of Hodeidah and United Nations flights to Sanaa airport. Somaliland's small, rusty Gulf of Aden port which for centuries made the town prosperous rises suddenly out of the ground as the road hits the coast. The crumbling town has languished for decades, but its fortunes look set to change following a multi-million dollar deal to revamp the port which has triggered a rush to buy land. Berbera, along the coast from Djibouti, has been a backwater since 1991 when Somaliland broke away from Somalia following a bloody civil war. The town's buildings, some dating back to the Ottoman era, stand neglected. Unemployment is rampant, exacerbated by a devastating drought that has decimated livestock, a backbone of the export economy.

Police in Yemen have arrested three new suspects in the bombing of the American warship USS Cole in which 17 U.S. sailors were killed last year, a Yemeni government weekly said. The paper said the three had recently been detained in the capital and sent for interrogation to the southern port city of Aden, site of the apparent suicide bombing which crippled the U.S. destroyer in October. Yemen has already arrested a dozen suspects over the attack, some of whom are reportedly Muslim militants. But officials have said the main suspect appears to have fled to Afghanistan.
