MOL, Makarov University Pact on Northern Sea Route

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping during a meeting held in St.Petersburg, the Russian Federation.The MOU reconfirms and further develops the cooperation between the two organizations related to the training of seafarers especially in the field of Northern Sea Route operations.MOL has been operating icebreaking LNG carriers for the Yamal LNG project that navigate in the Northern Sea Route, and MOL crews have had special training such as polar water training courses for navigation officers and cold climate survival training course at the Makarov Training Centreā€¦

Rosatomflot Icebreakers Steered 331 Ships

Rosatomflot (FSUE Atomflot), Russian company that maintains the world's only fleet of nuclear-powered icebreakers, said that its nuclear icebreakers steered 331 ships of a total gross capacity 12.7 mln tons. As compared to 2017, the capacity of steered ships increased by 5 mln tons.The Rosatom group company said in a press release that with that, the number of steering operations decreased (last year it was 493 ships) due to completion of the active phase of construction in the port of Sabetta and reduction of flow of vessels carrying cargoes for construction.Besides, as liquefied natural gas shipments from Sabetta started by LNG tankers of Yamalmax classā€¦

Sovcomflotā€™s New Icebreaker Named

A ceremony raising the flag of the Russian Federation and naming a new multifunctional icebreaking platform supply vessel, Yevgeny Primakov, took place on February 3, 2018 in Saint Petersburg. The vessel was built by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, a subsidiary of the United Shipbuilding Corporation; technical supervision was carried out by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS), which assigned the vessel a high ice class ā€“ Icebreaker6. Russian Registery Releases Polar Code Requirements

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has completed the research on the preparation of proposals as regards procedures for the development of the Polar Water Operational Manual (PWOM) for the RS-classed ships, the Contractor being Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (SUMIS). Polar Water Operational Manual (PWOM) shall be available on board in compliance with the Polar Code coming into force on January, 1, 2017. To assist the shipowners, a detailed structure and the requirements to the content of the Manual have been developed within the framework of the research, provided with recommendations for each section.

Tanker Training Solution Installed at Makarov

IMO Secretary General Koji Sekimizu inaugurated the new Transas technological simulation complex for tanker personnel training installed at the Makarov Training Center, part of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. Admiral Makarov State University is a Russian high school for education of maritime and inland professionals. With the new simulation complex from Transas, the school will expand its training portfolio by offering individual and crew training for tanker personnelā€¦

RS Bolsters Education, Science and Production Ties

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) said it is actively strengthening partnership in key areas of enhancing maritime transport safety. In 2014, meetings of four sections of the RS Scientific and Technical Council (STC) were held. Scientific and educational centers, shipbuilding and shiprepair yards, shipping companies and other organizations of the maritime industry participated in the RS Scientific and Technical Council sections: St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University (SMTU), Krylov State Scientific Center, OAO Rosmorport, OAO Severnaya Verf, OAO Admiralteiskie Verfi, Nevsky Shipyard, Shipbuilding & Shiprepair Technology Center.

Maritime Policy is Central Theme at Russian-Dutch Conference

New public policy priorities, government support and legislation for navigation on inland waterways in Russia, as well as fleet modernisation and waterways infrastructure will be discussed during the conference ā€˜Russian-Dutch Bilateral Year 2013: the Strategy of Water Transportā€™. Key speaker during the conference will be Viktor Olersky, deputy Minister of Transport. The conference takes place on September 24, 2013 in pavilion 7 of the Lenexpo in St. Petersburg. The conference will be co-chaired by Mr. Olersky and Siebe Riedstra, Secretary General of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.
