Containership Crew Member Medevaced Off Hawaii

An injured mariner was medevaced from a containership off the coast of Hawaii on Wednesday.At 4 a.m., Saturday, the captain of the 984-foot Adonis notified Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) Honolulu watchstanders that a 43-year-old crew member on board suffered a hand injury. A U.S. Coast Guard duty flight surgeon was consulted and recommended a medevac based on the concern that the mariner’s injury could worsen if left untreated.Due to the vessel’s size and safety concerns for a small-boat transfer, the Malta-flagged containership’s crew was instructed to set course for Oahu where Coast Guard crews would rendezvous upon arrival.Coast Guard crews conducted the medevac nine miles south of Honolulu, on Wednesday.

PGS Implements Adonis Personnel Manager

WindStar Cruises to Implement Adonis

Adonis AS (Adonis) said that Windstar Cruises will be implementing Adonis Personnel Manager (APM) and Payroll for all its Human Resources (HR), time and attendance, crew management and payroll activities. The Adonis solution will enable Windstar to host and consolidate these processes using a central HR database, which will improve efficiencies and coordination between their vessels and their shore side crew in Seattle. Alexander Chairs Port of London Authority

The UK Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis, has appointed Helen Alexander, CBE, as Chairman of the Board of the Port of London Authority (PLA), with effect from 1 January 2010. She will succeed Simon Sherrard, who has been PLA Chairman since 2001. Helen Alexander is president of the CBI and has been a non-executive director of the PLA since June this year. She is also Chairman of Incisive Media, and a non-executive director of Rolls Royce plc and Centrica plc.

MarAd Sells Two Obsolete Vessels For More Than $1m Each

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration announced today that it has sold two obsolete ships to American salvage companies for more than $1 million each. The sale of these two vessels from the James River Reserve Fleet (JRRF) near Fort Eustis, Va., each exceed the agency’s ship-disposal program’s recent record-setting price fetched by the sale of the Adonis, which last March sold for $1,151,727. Agency contracting officials report that the has been sold to Esco Marine, Inc., of , , for $1,465,726; and the Truckee has been sold to Bay Bridge Enterprises, L.L.C., of , for $1,231,328. Three other obsolete government-owned ships are also being sold for a combined price of nearly $1.5 million.

Adonis Sells for More Than $1m

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration has sold a ship from the Beaumont Reserve Fleet for more than $1million, the first time under the current program that a ship has brought such a price. International Shipbreaking, Ltd., in , , will pay $1,151,727 for the ship Adonis, now moored at the Beaumont Reserve Fleet site in . Three other government-owned, obsolete ships are also being sold to the company for an additional $173,297: the , the and the Buyer. These sales stand in contrast to most ship disposal contracts in recent years, which have involved the federal government paying to have its obsolete ships recycled.

Omega Navigation Announces Delivery Tankers

Omega Navigation Enterprises, Inc., a provider of global marine transportation services announced that it has taken delivery of two product tankers, the Iasonas, to be renamed the Omega Lady Sarah, and the Adonis, to be renamed the Omega Princess. Omega Navigation has taken delivery of five double hull product tankers and has agreements to acquire one additional double hull product tanker with expected delivery by the end of July 2006. The Omega Lady Sarah is a Panamax (LR1) double hull product tanker of 71,500 deadweight tons (dwt), built by STX, South Korea in 2004. This is the third Panamax product tanker delivered to Omega and follows the delivery of the Omega Queen and Omega King"announced on May 31, 2006 and June 16, 2006, respectively.
