The Rabun County Fire Services, located in the northeast corner of Georgia, has placed a Lake Assault Boats fireboat into service on Lake Rabun, an 835-acre reservoir with 25 miles of shoreline. Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd  reported today its full year financial results ended 31 December 2014 (FY2014) with a Group revenue of $6.54b compared to $6.63b as reported for FY2013. Profit before tax (PBT) of $650.7m was $79m or 11% lower year-on-year compared to $729.7m, and Net Profit of $532.0m was $48.8m or 8% lower year-on-year compared to $580.8m. At the business sector level, revenue for the Aerospace sector was comparable at $2.06b, and PBT was down 11% to $283m from $319.4m reported for FY2013. The Electronics sector achieved higher PBT of $184m, up 8% compared to $170.3m in FY2013 on the back of comparable year-on-year revenue of $1.58b. The Land Systems sector posted comparable year-on-year revenue of $1.4b, and a lower PBT of $56.2m, down 50% from $111.8m in FY2013.

Capt. Rod Hutton, deputy commander for the Enlisted Women in Submarines Task Force, led the Enlisted Women in Submarines Road Show to different military bases in the San Diego area Feb. 9-11. The road show is spreading the word that the submarine force is now open to female enlisted Sailors from E-1 to E-8. Speakers discussed how junior female Sailors could convert to rates in the submarine force and the type of candidates the force is seeking. In addition, they provided an insight of the lifestyle aboard submarines. "Up until 21 January all the enlisted billets in the submarine force were previously closed to women," said Hutton. Currently, more than 60 female officers are serving throughout the Navy's 76 submarines.

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced today that the Group posted quarterly revenue of $1.59b for the second quarter ended 30 June 2014 (2Q2014), which is comparable with the prior year’s revenue in the same period. The Land Systems sector saw lower revenue due to fewer deliveries in its Automotive business group in the second quarter. The other three sectors - Aerospace, Electronics and Marine registered growth of between 6% and 12% year-on-year. In 2Q2014, all sectors except for the Electronics sector, recorded lower profit before tax (PBT) resulting in a 12% drop in Group PBT to $163.7m from $186.9m in the same period last year.

Litton Industries, after seeing its shares drop more than 60 percent over the past 12 months (see chart, page 2), caught in a bearish defense industry down draft, reported great third quarter results last week. Litton Industries reported that diluted earnings per share rose 23% to $1.35 for the third quarter, compared with diluted earnings per share of $1.10 for the third quarter of fiscal 1999. Excluding a one-time gain on sale of businesses, third quarter diluted earnings per share increased 21% to $1.33. Net earnings for the third quarter were $61.8 million versus $50.9 million for the same period last year. Revenue for the third quarter increased 11% to $1.4 billion, compared with $1.26 billion for the comparable period of the prior year.

Litton Industries Inc. plans to sell its defense electronics unit and focus on its shipbuilding, information security and telecommunications businesses. The Advanced Electronics unit, which specializes in navigation and electronic warfare, had $1.6 billion in revenues in fiscal 2000, or about 28 percent of Litton's total revenues of $5.6 billion. It has about 9,500 employees. The evaluation, Litton said, indicated that the defense electronics unit would produce more value in the hands of a company focusing on similar areas. In a move which effectively creates a defense and marine naval construction giant, Northrop Grumman Corp. and Litton Industries jointly announced late last month that they have signed a definitive agreement under which Northrop Grumman will acquire for cash all of the outstanding shares of Litton for $80 per common share and $35 per Series B Preferred share. The transaction is valued at approximately $5.1 billion, which includes the assumption of Litton's $1.3 billion in net debt. Litton is a leading supplier of advanced electronics and information systems to the U.S. government and international customers and is the premier designer and builder of non-nuclear surface combatant ships for U.S. and foreign navies.

Integrated Defense Technologies Inc.'s, subsidiary, Metric Systems, has been awarded a contract totaling $13.2M for LHD 8 Shipboard Load Centers and Distribution Switchboards by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. Under the contract, Metric Systems will provide development, production, and integrated logistics support of the Low Voltage Electrical Power Load Centers and Distribution Switchboards for use on the LHD 8 Amphibious Assault Ship currently under development by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. This equipment is used to distribute low voltage electrical power to vital shipboard systems and maintain high reliability operation under combat conditions. The contract has a period of performance of 18 months.

The U.S. Coast Guard is changing the homeport assignment for the Coast Guard cutter Long Island (WPB - 1342) from San Diego to Valdez, Alaska. The 110-foot Island-class patrol boat’s homeport transfer is scheduled to occur in autumn. “The Coast Guard is committed to providing safe and secure waterways along America’s coasts,” said Vice Adm. Terry Cross, commander of the Coast Guard’s Pacific Area. The Coast Guard commissioned the cutter Long Island in 1991 with a crew of 17 Coast Guard members. Originally based in Monterey, Calif., the cutter moved to San Diego in 1999. The cutter’s primary missions include search and rescue, homeland security, counter-drug enforcement, migrant interdiction and fisheries enforcement.

The Coast Guard Loran Station here will hold a Change of Command Ceremony at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Senior Chief Robert A. Merick will relieve Chief Richard J. Isabelle as Commanding Officer of the unit during the ceremony. Isabelle, of Springfield, Mass., will serve as executive officer of Loran Station Port Clarence. Isabelle’s previous duty stations include Loran Station Marcus Island, Japan, and the Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma in New Bedford, Mass. He graduated from Springfield Technical Community College with an associate’s degree in Electronics Technology in 1985 followed by a degree from the Advanced Integrated Electronics School in Memphis, Tenn. Merick, of Sikeston, Mo., most recently served at the Kodiak Communications Station as the Electronics Technician in Charge.

Northrop Grumman Corp. named Robert Iorizzo as president of the Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector group, the company's largest business. Iorizzo replaces James Roche, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as secretary of the U.S. Air Force. The change was made effective immediately, Northrop said. Iorizzo previously served as vice president and general manager of the sector's Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Naval Systems division. The sensors and systems business has expanded recently with Northrop's acquisition of Litton Industries Inc. Litton's $1.6 billion advanced electronics businesses was integrated into Northrop's operation and the division is now expected to generate 2001 revenues of $4.5 billion.
