HSD to offer ABB AbilityTekomar XPERT as an Option

Korean engine manufacturer HSD Engine is to offer ABB’s diagnostics and advisory software Tekomar XPERT to shipowners operating its two-stroke and four-stroke marine engines.Tekomar XPERT is a digital performance optimization platform applicable to any engine that is designed to help shipping companies achieve substantial fuel savings and greenhouse gas emission reductions. Under the agreement, HSD Engine will offer the software as an option to shipowners.“In response to market demand, HSD Engine reviewed various solutions for engine performance optimization and evaluation.

Kongsberg, ABB Partner on Engine Performance Analysis

A cooperation agreement between Kongsberg Digital and ABB Turbocharging on edge data collection and ship engine performance analysis will see the two companies work toward a common data infrastructure and accelerate the development of digital applications and services.The pact will enable ABB Turbocharging to use Kongsberg Digital’s data infrastructure solution for vessels, Vessel Insight – which runs on Kongsberg Digital’s Kognifai ecosystem – as an additional data infrastructure service for ABB Turbocharging’s digital solutions.

ABB Orders Cable-laying Vessel

ABB informs it has ordered a cable-laying vessel from Kleven shipyard in Norway. The new ship, scheduled to be delivered in 2017, will be custom-built to ABB specifications and measure approximately 140 by 30 meters. “This next-generation vessel incorporating state-of-the-art ABB technologies will be a key differentiator for our high-voltage cable business, enhancing flexibility and execution ability,” said Claudio Facchin, president of ABB’s Power Systems division. The vessel is of SALT 306 CLV design from Salt Ship Design in Stord, Norway. The new ship will deploy many of ABB’s marine technologies. The Onboard DC Grid and power distribution solution, for instance, will use a single DC circuit for ship propulsion to reduce power consumption.

Maersk Orders Advisory Software for 140 Ships

Power and automation group ABB informs it is working with MeteoGroup to equip 140 containerships from Maersk Line with advisory software to optimize routes, boost maritime safety and protect cargo based on factors including the hull design and the weather; helping the shipping line avoid conditions that could be harmful to the ship, its crew or its cargo. The deal will see ABB combine its Octopus motion-monitoring, forecasting and decision-support software, which improves vessel availability and safety, with MeteoGroup’s SPOS Seekeeping plug-in.

ABB to Supply Energy Management Systems to Spain-Balearics Ferry

Power and automation technology group ABB informs it has won an order from Spanish ferry operator Baleària to supply energy management systems for one of its largest vessels. It is expected that the system will improve vessel’s fuel efficiency over 2 per cent. ABB’s advisory software will be installed onboard the ferry Martin i Soler, with an option to extend the project to two further vessels in the Baleària fleet. ABB explain that Baleària operates ferries connecting the four Balearic Islands to mainland Spain, as well as providing daily inter-island sailings.

Power and automation technology group ABB has won an order from Spanish ferry operator Baleària to supply energy management systems for one of its largest vessels. ABB’s advisory software will be installed onboard the ferry Martin i Soler, with an option to extend the project to two further vessels in the Baleària fleet. The package supplied is part of ABB’s energy management solution package EMMA Advisory Suite of software. The EMMA Advisory Suite is a decision-support tool to minimize the overall energy costs for individual vessels and entire fleets.

LNG Sloshing Prevention Technology

Amarcon and GTT to develop technology that enhances the quality of sloshing measurement & prediction for LNG carriers. Amarcon, a member of the ABB group, has signed a cooperation agreement with GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz) to market and further develop a forecasting and advice software system for sloshing prevention onboard LNG carriers. Sloshing prevention is an advanced module within Amarcon’s OCTOPUS advisory software suite that will forecast and advise the crew on the optimum route to take in order to achieve time savings while preventing the risk for sloshing.
