Amarcon, an ABB Group company, today announced that the company will deliver OCTOPUS-Onboard vessel advisory solutions to a total of three vessels owned by Norwegian oil service company OHT AS and Korean heavy cargo transporter DongBang. The information and control system will support the vessels route planning, optimization of speed and insight in critical motions. The repeat order with OHT encompasses OCTOPUS motion monitoring and forecasting for vessel M/V Albatross. Amarcon has previously delivered advisory suites to OHT’s heavy lift cargo vessels Eagle, Falcon, Osprey and Hawk. “We have deployed the OCTOPUS technology across our fleet to improve the safety and efficiency of critical heavy lift transportation operations.

Amarcon, a member of the ABB group, announced that it has received an order for two Octopus-Onboard motion monitoring systems for Heavy freight cargo vessels KOREX SPB no.1 & 2 from CJ Korea Express. CJ Korea Express is a result of the merger between Korea Express and CJ GLS. With a head-office in Seoul, the company is providing differentiated logistic services across the globe. The company is South-Korea’s largest total cargo delivery company, providing services as contract logistics, forwarding, stevedoring and international express.

Amarcon, a member of the ABB group, announced that it has received an order for in total eleven OCTOPUS-Onboard installations for Heavy Lift vessels from Cosco Heavy Transport and BigLift Shipping. The Cosco deal was closed after the heavy cargo transporter leased the portable OCTOPUS-Onboard system on several occasions. Cosco heavy transport operates a versatile fleet within the semi-submersible and project cargo transportation industry and provides her services across the globe.

ABS Nautical Systems continually enhances its NS5 Enterprise software suite of products to meet ever-changing industry demands. Currently in development for release in 2013 are a mobility platform, a new warehouse and inventory management module, as well as a new Hull Inspection 3D module. The mobility platform supports portable devices including scanners, tablet PCs and smartphones. Features will include alert view notifications and mobile calendaring. The acquisition will expand ABB’s advisory systems offering for customers in the maritime sectors. The transaction is expected to be closed in the third quarter of 2012. Amarcon’s product portfolio provides software solutions for ships that focus on safety and improved operational ability. This addition to ABB’s portfolio will enhance the recently released offering of Marine Advisory Systems. Amarcon will join ABB’s Process Automation Division. As energy cost, emissions and ship safety become increasingly important on ships, the need for advisory systems will grow.
