Eastern Pacific Shipping to Equip Pacific Sentinel with eSAIL Wind Propulsion System

Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has signed a contract for its first ever wind-assisted propulsion system, partnering with bound4blue to install three 22-metre eSAILs onboard the Pacific Sentinel.The turnkey ‘suction sail’ technology, which drags air across an aerodynamic surface to generate propulsive efficiency, will be fitted in fourth quarter of 2024.The wind-assisted propulsion technology is expected to help the 183-metre, 50,000 DWT oil and chemical tanker reduce overall energy consumption by approximately 10%…

Hamburg-based ship finance platform oceanis’s Q4 State of Ship Finance Report comes with a thank-you to shipping companies that are committed to the green transition.Over the past decade, oceanis has seen large changes to the ship financing landscape towards greener projects. The most obvious green financiers are the Poseidon Principles banks, the initiative launched in 2019 whose signatories manage 70% of the world’s shipping loans. At the same time, many other banks and funds are moving away from financing ‘brown’ assets and trades.

DNV, Partners Launch JIP to Assess Offshore Wind Installation Emissions

The maritime classification society DNV has, with its partners, launched a joint industry program to establish a monitoring and reporting framework for assessing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the offshore wind installation sector. The partners of the JIP called EMRED, comprise energy companies, ScottishPower Renewables, RWE, Vattenfall, and Orsted, and installation and operation companies, Jan De Nul Group, DEME, Ziton, Cadeler, Van Oord, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, and DNV."The expansion of renewable energy generation is a key part of the global energy transition.

World’s Largest Electric Ferry Completes Maiden Voyage

E-ferry Ellen, the world's largest all-electric ferry,  made its first commercial trip connecting the ports of Søby and Fynshav (Denmark).Switzerland-based battery system provider Leclanché SA has powered the vessel, capable of carrying approximately 30 vehicles and 200 passengers,  with a capacity of 4.3MWh.Participating in this event celebrating the first scheduled ferry service between the two Danish islands were the respective mayors of the two municipalities, Ole Wej Petersen of Aerø and Erik Lauritzen of Søndeborg.E-ferry Ellen is expected to be fully operational within a few weeks. AER Distributes BSCO Fire Suppression

AER Supply Ltd. has been named the exclusive distributor for BSCO, Inc. Fire Suppression Systems for 13 states. BSCO manufactures and installs semi-custom systems that provide fire-protection solutions for small, enclosed areas, such as the engine room, to prevent fire from spreading throughout the boat. The company uses environmentally friendly agents and the USCG-approved suppression systems have been tested to meet the requirements of NFPA 2001 in a program jointly designed by Factory Mutual Testing and BSCO. The product line includes cylinders, actuators and nozzles.
