NASA Welding Technologies Could Revolutionize Workboat Fabrication

Solid-State Welding Processes Being Developed for NASA Manufacturing Programs Could Significantly Reduce Workboat Fabrication CostsWhether it is for a tug boat, cargo vessel, or an offshore supply ship, much of the workboat fabrication industry is located along the Southern Coast of the U.S. But a visit to any one of the workboat facilities in that area (or any other in the country) would reveal antiquated and archaic fabrication processes used seventy years ago. The workboat manufacturing process is very expensive, labor intensive, and has not really changed since World War II.

Thrustmaster Announces Management Promotions

Thrustmaster of Texas, Inc., a company in the design and manufacture of marine thruster systems, announced several promotions in its top level operations management. Jason Small, B.Sc.Mar.E., has been promoted to General Manager. Mr. Small, a graduate of Texas A&M with a B.Sc. in Marine Engineering, served as Engineering Manager at Thrustmaster for the past six years. Venkat Mudupu, PhD has been promoted to Engineering Manager. Dr. Mudupu has been with Thrustmaster for over five years and is a specialist in design of control systems for propulsion and dynamic positioning applications for marine and aerospace applications. ITT Industries Appoints New President, Specialty Products

ITT Industries, Inc. has appointed Brenda L. Reichelderfer as president of the company's Specialty Products businesses. A 19-year ITT veteran, Reichelderfer was most recently president of the company's Flow Control group, which is part of the Specialty Products segment that is a group of businesses producing a variety of engineered products, including valves and switches for industrial and aerospace applications and products for the marine and leisure markets. Reichelderfer's promotion follows the announced retirement of Richard J. M. Hamilton, who most recently led the Specialty Products segment. Hamilton, who has been with the company since 1971, will remain through the end of the year to assist in Reichelderfer's transition.
