Norway Labor Unions Threaten Strike of 28,500 Workers from April 1

About 28,500 workers at Norwegian shipyards, oil industry fabrication plants, and other manufacturers will go on strike from April 1, unless labor unions and employers reach a new wage deal, a state-appointed mediator said on Monday.Firms that stand to be affected are suppliers to the oil and gas industry, such as Aker Solutions, where 736 workers may strike; Aibel, with 661 employees, and Kaefer Energy, with 405 employees, the unions said.A strike would affect construction of ships…

Bluewater's Haewene Brim FPSO, normally used for oil production from Shell's Pierce Field in the UK North Sea, has recently arrived in Haugesund, Norway.Norwegian engineering and construction Aibel shared a video of the FPSO arrival in Haugesund, towed by a Maersk Supply Service vessel. New Management at Aibel's Haugesund Yard

Norway;s Aibel has announced a pair of leadership appointments at its yard in Haugesund.The company said Friday that Lars Inge Hellestveit will take up the role of vice president of yard operations, joined by Hans Jørgen Alfsen as the yard's new fabrication manager. Keppel O&M Scores $442M Vessel Order in Offshore Renewables Sector

Singapore's Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M) said Friday it had secured a contract valued at approximately S$600 million (USD 442 million) in the offshore renewable energy industry.Sharing the news on Friday, Keppel gave little details on the client and the type of order. Keppel-Aibel Team Wins German Offshore Gig

Norwegian energy services provider Aibel AS and a unit of Singaporean conglomerate Keppel Corporation have jointly won a contract to deliver two converter stations as part of the DolWin cluster servicing German offshore wind farms.The grid operator TenneT Offshore has tasked Aibel and Keppel O&M, a unit of Keppel Corp, with the design, engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of a 900-MW offshore High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converter station along with an onshore converter station as part of the DolWin5 project.Together with its subcontractor ABB (ASEA Brown Boveri), the consortium will also undertake the installation and start-up operations of the offshore and onshore converter stations on site at Germany.Scheduled to be completed in 2024…

Kvaerner Eyes Growth, Mergers as Profits Decline

Johan Sverdrup Drilling Platform Installed

The 22,000-tonne topside for the drilling platform was lifted into position in one single lift on the Johan Sverdrup field last weekend. Petrojarl I FPSO Begins Working its 10th Field

Teekay’s three-decades-old floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) Petrojarl I has achieved first oil and commenced its five-year charter contract with a consortium led by Queiroz Galvão Exploração e Produção SA (QGEP) on the Atlanta oilfield, which is the vessel’s 10th field over its lifetime.The Atlanta field, located in Block BS4 in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil, is a post-salt oilfield in water depths of approximately 1,500 meters about 185 kilometers from Rio de Janeiro.

Life Extension for FSO Njord Bravo

Statoil: Considerable Johan Castberg spin-offs

Statoil’s proposed impact assessment programme for the Johan Castberg project reveals that the project will be important to Norwegian industry and have strong ripple effects. During our improvement work we have created new opportunities for the Johan Castberg field in the far north. We have changed the concept and found new solutions that allow us to realise the project. But we are still vulnerable to increasing costs and a continued low oil price,” says Margareth Øvrum, executive vice president for Technology, Projects and Drilling in Statoil. The proposed impact assessment programme is an essential part of the preparations before a final development plan for Johan Castberg is submitted in 2017, according to schedule.

Aibel Bags Greater Enfield Project Contract

Aibel Pte Ltd in Singapore has been awarded the E&P contract for modifications on Woodside Energy Ltd’s Nguijma-Yin floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) off Western Australia. The FPSO will undergo modifications to the topsides, hull and turret, along with installation of a new Custom Water Flood module. The contract includes both detailed marine and topsides engineering and procurement services as well as commissioning services. At the peak the Greater Enfield Project will engage more than 100 employees. The work will be executed by Aibel`s office in Singapore. The contract is expected to commence in July this year and is presently targeted to be completed January 2019. Greater Enfield is located 60 km off Exmouth in Western Australia.

Samsung Wins $890 mln Statoil North Sea Contract

Norwegian oil major Statoil  has awarded Samsung Heavy industries an $888 million contract for two platform decks on the giant Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea, it said on Tuesday. The contract includes fabrication of decks for both the process and riser platforms for the Sverdrup field, a discovery with up to 3 billion barrels of oil equivalents that will cost as much as $28 billion to develop fully. "They (Samsung Heavy Industries) have provided a competitive bid in a tough international competition," Margareth Oevrum, executive vice president for Technology, projects and drilling at Statoil, said in a statement. Other competitors for the platform deck contracts included Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding, trade weekly Upstream reported in May.

Samsung Bags Order for Decks on Johan Sverdrup

Statoil, on behalf of the Johan Sverdrup license, has awarded Samsung the contract for decks for both the process and riser platforms. The total contract value is NOK 7 billion. The contract is a fabrication contract (FC) of decks for the process and riser platforms. Aker Solutions has previously been awarded engineering work and purchase of equipment packages for the two aforementioned decks. The function of the process platform, which weighs approx. 26,000 tonnes, is to ensure stabilisation of the oil and processing into rich gas. The riser platform, which weighs approx. 22,000 tonnes, will serve oil and gas exports, water and gas injection, as well as any future connections.

Statoil Awards Johan Sverdrup Drilling Contracts

Statoil, on behalf of the Johan Sverdrup licence, has awarded two contracts at a total value of more than NOK 4.35 billion to Odfjell Drilling for drilling wells on the Johan Sverdrup field. Odfjell Drilling has been awarded contracts both for the Deepsea Atlantic semi-submersible rig and for drilling services on the fixed drilling unit to be installed on the Johan Sverdup field. The rig contract includes the charter of the Deepsea Atlantic rig for three years, starting from March 2016. In addition there are six 6-months options. The rig contract has a value of slightly more than NOK 2.5 billion. “This contract is an important milestone for the Johan Sverdrup project.

Aibel Bags Johan Sverdrup Contract

Statoil, on behalf of the Johan Sverdrup partnership, will sign a contract with Aibel today for the construction of the deck for the drilling platform on the field. The contract is worth in excess of NOK 8 billion. The contract includes engineering work, procurement and construction (EPC) of the drilling platform deck. The platform deck will be built at the Aibel’s yard in Thailand and Haugesund, and at Nymo’s yard in Grimstad. Petrojarl Knarr FPSO Earns AoC from PSA Norway

Teekay’s Petrojarl Knarr FPSO has received PSA Norway’s Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC), and has now arrived the Knarr field in the North Sea. The AoC is a statement from the PSA expressing the authorities’ confidence that petroleum activity can be performed by the facility within the regulatory framework. FPSO Petrojarl Knarr is to be used on the Knarr field, where BG Norge AS is the operator. The Knarr field is in the North Sea, around 50 kilometers north-east of Snorre. Petrojarl Knarr is classified by DNV GL and sails under the Bahamian flag.

Five vessels of Smit Lamnalco, the global marine service provider, played the key role in the unberthing and float-over of the world's largest high voltage direct current (HVDC) platform, DolWin beta, at Drydocks World - Dubai. The five escort tugs, with more than a combined 450 metric tons bollard pull power, provided marine support not only during the unberthing process but also in the 24-mile tow offshore and its float over on to the heavy transport vessel, Dockwise owned and operated, Mighty Servant 1.

Statoil: Gudrun Officially Opened

Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg officially opened the Gudrun platform in the North Sea today, 19 August. This is the first new Statoil-operated platform on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) since Kristin in 2005. Gudrun is the first in a long line of new field developments operated by Statoil, and therefore it represents a new era on the NCS. The next in line is Valemon, which is scheduled for start-up later this year. Gina Krog and Johan Sverdrup on the Utsira High are next in the North Sea.
