Distressed Surfer Rescued near Cape Kiwanda, Ore

A Coast Guard Air Station North Bend MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew rescued a surfer in distress 150 yards offshore near Cape Kiwanda, Saturday. The surfer was safely transferred to local emergency medical services at the Pacific City Airport for further medical care. Watchstanders at the Sector Columbia River Command Center received the report of the surfer in distress via Tillamook County 911 dispatch. The Dolphin crew, who were already airborne on a training mission from Newport, were diverted, quickly located the surfer and hoisted him to safety. “This case illustrates the importance of unit and interagency relationships,” said Chief Petty Officer Justin Urbano, Command Duty Officer at Sector Columbia River.

Ailing Fisherman Medevaced off Oregon

An ailing fisherman was medevaced by U.S. Coast Guard aircrews Thursday roughly nine miles west of Winchester Bay, Oregon. The man, reportedly suffering from a seizure, was hoisted from fishing vessel Hecate by an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend at about 11 a.m. and was transferred to waiting EMS at Southwest Oregon Regional Airport in stable condition. Fisherman Medevaced Near Winchester Bay, Ore.

A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a fisherman who had reportedly suffered a seizure aboard the fishing vessel Hecate, about 9 miles west of Winchester Bay, Thursday morning. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend safely hoisted the man at about 11 a.m. and transferred him to waiting EMS at Southwest Oregon Regional Airport in stable condition. Ailing Crewman Medevaced from Cable Lay Ship off US

A crew member reportedly suffering from a heart attack was air lifted by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew from a cable-laying vessel 80 miles west of Coos Bay, Ore. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend on Thursday safely transferred the 55-year-old ailing Frenchman to emergency medical personnel at 6:33 a.m., who transported him to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay. Fisherman Medevaced Off US West Coast

A fisherman who had reportedly lost consciousness and was suffering from chest pain was medevaced by a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) helicopter crew 30 miles west of Crescent City, California, Tuesday. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend, Oregon, hoisted the man and transferred him to awaiting EMS at Crescent City Airport. A video is available here. Fishing Vessel Hits Jetty, Crew Saved

A U.S. Coast Guardreported that its boatcrew from Station Chetco River, in Brookings, Ore., rescued four people after a 62-foot fishing vessel allided with the Chetco River South Jetty, Monday evening. The crew of the fishing vessel Jo Marie contacted the Coast Guard via VHF-FM radio at 8:16 p.m. Crewmembers from Station Chetco River launched aboard a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat and watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend, Ore., directed the launch of an aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station North Bend. The MLB boatcrew was able to safely rescue all four people and transferred them to emergency medical services at Station Chetco River. There were no reports of major injuries.

Coast Guard Cutter Deploys UAS, Interdicts Smugglers

The Coast Guard has completed the second of three planned shipboard demonstrations of unmanned aircraft system (UAS) capabilities aboard Coast Guard Cutter 'Bertholf' . The Coast Guard is using knowledge gained from these demonstrations to inform a future cutter-based UAS acquisition project. During the two-week deployment, the UAS demonstration team operated a ScanEagle UAS for more than 90 hours of flight time and aided in the interdiction of nearly 600 kilograms of cocaine – the first Coast Guard interdiction conducted with the support of an embarked UAS asset.

Coast Guard Recovers Person from Search Area

A Coast Guard helicopter crew located and recovered a person from the water in the search area of the sunken tug Primo Brusco 27 nautical miles northwest off Florence, Ore. The man, who was wearing an immersion-type suit, exhibited no vital signs and was transported aboard the helicopter back to Coast Guard Air Station North Bend. The man's identity is being determined by the Coos Bay coroner. The Coast Guard has suspended the search. Coast Guard Capt. Darrell Folsom, commander of search and rescue operations, has contacted the family of the missing mariner. In the early hours of Monday morning, the tug Primo Brusco sank 20 miles west of Florence, Ore. A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued four of the five men who abandoned ship.
