Video: Tanker Crewman Medevaced off South Carolina

A burn victim was medevaced from a Liberian-flagged chemical tanker approximately 179 miles east of Charleston, S.C., on Sunday.The U.S. Coast Guard said its watchstanders at Sector Charleston were notified on Saturday around 7:46 p.m. that a crew member aboard the Southern Shark obtained chemical burns during a tank cleaning. A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew was launched to medecac the ailing 45-year-old mariner, who was airlifted and transferred to Augusta Burn Center Hospital by 3:03 p.m.

Search Called Off for Overboard Mariner in the Port of Savannah

Overboard Containership Crewmember Missing in the Port of Savannah

Helicopter and boat crews are scouring the Port of Savannah in search of a crewmember who fell overboard from a containership in the Georgia seaport on Tuesday.The U.S. Coast Guard said its watchstanders at Sector Charleston were notified at approximately 3 a.m., Tuesday by Georgia Ports Authority that a 70-year-old man was missing from the Maersk Tukang.The crewmember did not resurface after falling into the water from a gangway while boarding the Singapore-flagged ship, a Coast Guard spokesperson told MarineLink.The Coast Guard said it has deployed a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Station Savannah and a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Tybee Island to search for the missing man.Crews from Department of Natural Resources…

Salvors Building Protection Barrier Around Golden Ray Wreck

Salvors are continuing work to remove the wreck of a South Korean car carrier vessel that ran aground and overturned near Brunswick, Ga. in September 2019.Last week, unified command contractors started driving the first of 70-80 piles that will be used to hold an environmental protection barrier (EPB) in place around the MV Golden Ray wreck in St. Simons Sound, the unified command response team said in a statement.The pile-driving work is being performed by Weeks Marine during daylight hours only and is expected to last about a month, said the unified command for the St.

The Coast Guard medevaced an 80-year old woman Sunday 55-miles east of Savannah, Georgia.Coast Guard Sector Charleston Command Center watchstanders received a call at 9:15 p.m. from the cruise ship Carnival Ecstasy stating a passenger suffered a head injury after falling and was in need of medical attention.A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew launched to assist.The Dolphin crew rendezvoused with the vessel, hoisted the woman with a nurse and transported them to Memorial University Medical Center Savannah at 10:20 p.m.

Video: Sick Cruise Ship Passenger Medevaced

On Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a man suffering from stomach pains from a cruise ship 80 miles east of Charleston, S.C.The cruise ship Adventure of the Sea contacted Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstanders stating a passenger was in need of emergency care.An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah launched and arrived at 7:30 p.m., hoisted the passenger and transported him to Medical University South Carolina for further care.

Tugboat Spills Oil in Halifax River

The U.S. Coast Guard is conducted a first-light assessment survey Thursday of a tugboat oil spill on the Halifax River near Ormond-by-the-Sea. The tug Tutahaca was reported to be leaking bilge oil into the river Wednesday. A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was directed to launch to conduct an overflight assessment survey of the river. Marine Environmental Response and Sea Tow arrived on scene with the tugboat at approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday and deployed 600-feet of containment boom and more than 1,500-feet of absorbent boom around the affected area.

Fishing Vessel Catches Fire off Georgia

Three fishermen were rescued Tuesday after their vessel caught fire 1 mile east of St. Catherines Island, Georgia. U.S. Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center watchstanders received a call from the fishing vessel at 3:16 p.m. stating their vessel was on fire and sinking. A Coast Guard Station Tybee Island 29-foot Response Boat - Small boatcrew and an Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew launched at approximately 3:25 p.m. The Dolphin crew arrived on scene at 4:30 p.m., hoisted the fishermen and transported to Air Station Savannah where EMS were waiting.

3 Rescued from Burning vessel near St. Catherines Island, Ga.

The Coast Guard rescued three fishermen Tuesday after the fishing vessel they were on caught fire 1 mile east of St. Catherines Island, Georgia. Coast Guard Sector Charleston Command Center watchstanders received a call from a crew member aboard the fishing vessel Sea Puppy at 3:16 p.m. who stated their boat was on fire and taking on water. A Coast Guard Station Tybee Island 29-foot Response Boat - Small boat crew and an Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew launched at approximately 3:25 p.m. The Dolphin crew arrived on scene at 4:30 p.m., hoisted the fishermen and transported them to Air Station Savannah to awaiting EMS. No injuries were reported. Coast Guard pollution investigators arrived on scene, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Injured Mariner Medevaced from Tanker off Florida

The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a man Thursday who sustained a head injury 90-miles east of Jacksonville. A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medevaced the 33-year-old man from the vessel Eagle Texas, an 800-foot tanker homeported in the Marshall Islands. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center watchstanders were notified Wednesday of a crew member who fell into a cargo hold and sustained a head injury. The vessel was 300-miles east of Jacksonville and changed course to rendezvous with rescue crews.

Cutter Diligence to Return

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence is scheduled to return to their homeport in Wilmington Saturday following a 45-day patrol in the Caribbean Sea. During their patrol, the Diligence crew conducted search and rescue operations off the west coast of Cuba and conducted drug interdiction operations in the vicinity of Columbia and Panama. In anticipation of Aviation Standardization, a three-day assessment of the Diligence crew's flight operations capabilities scheduled for early October, the crew practiced flight operations their first evening underway. An MH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah in Savannah, Georgia, met the cutter crew to conduct deck landings, helicopter in flight refueling (HIFR) and vertical replenishment (VERTREP) exercises.

New Captain for USCG Air Station Cape Cod

Capt. Timothy Tobiasz assumed the duties and responsibilities as commanding officer of Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts, from Capt. Stephen H. Torpey during a change of command ceremony at the air station in Bourne, Massachusetts, Saturday. Rear Adm. Linda L. Fagan, commander of the 1st Coast Guard District, presided over the ceremony. The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition which formally restates the continuity of authority vested in the commanding officer to the officers and crew in attendance. This unique military ritual represents a total transfer of responsibility, authority, and accountability from one leader to the next. Two fishermen were rescued from their sinking shrimp boat by a U.S. Coast Guard aircrew Friday off the coast of Saint Simons Island near Brunswic, Georgia. Passengers Taken Off Stranded Savannah Casino Boat

The U.S. Coast Guard informs that the casino boat 'Escapade' is moored at its homeport and is no longer aground in Calibogue Sound near Tybee Island, Georgia. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Tybee Island were notified the Escapade had ran aground with 94 passengers and 31 staff and crewmembers aboard during the ship’s maiden voyage. Coast Guard crews from Station Tybee Island, Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Georgia, and the Coast Guard Cutters Tarpon and Maria Bray worked together to take off 118 passengers and non-essential crew and staff from the Escapade. Coast Guard Responds to Plane Crash Near Brunswick, Ga.

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said in a news release that USCG boat and air crews are assisting the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in a search for survivors of a reported plane crash near Grant Creek on Mackay River, east of Golden Isles Aviation in St. Simons Island, Ga., Monday. Injured Freighter Crewman Medavaced

A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew from Savannah, Ga., medically evacuated a freighter crewman who was injured on the motor vessel New Pacific more than 200 miles east of Atlantic Beach Wednesday. The man was hoisted from the vessel, flown to Naval Station Mayport, Fla., and transferred by EMS to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., in stable condition. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center were notified Tuesday night the man suffered a puncture wound to the neck and was in need of medical assistance. Wednesday morning a medic from a nearby U.S. Navy vessel, which was in the area at the time, was transferred to the freighter to assess the injured man’s condition and administer triage and medication.

Three Mariners Rescued from Sinking Ship

The Coast Guard rescued three mariners from a sinking fishing vessel Saturday in the vicinity of Calibogue Sound, S.C., January 12. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center received a report from Beaufort County Dispatch stating the 62-foot fishing vessel Christina Leigh was taking on water, at 3 p.m. The three mariners aboard had to place the call via cell phone since their VHF radio was damaged. Sector Charleston personnel put out an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island at 3:04 p.m. A crew aboard a rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah was also launched. The helicopter crew arrived on scene and located the vessel at 4 p.m.

CG Monitoring Oil Spill Off Savannah Coast

The Coast Guard is continuing to monitor an oil spill approximately nine miles offshore of Savannah after a tank ship damaged its double-hulled fuel tank during the deployment of the ship's anchor Sept. 27. The Singapore-based tank ship, Stolt Vision, reportedly sustained a rupture to the starboard fuel tank located beneath the water surface while lowering its anchor at approximately 5:50 p.m. Sept. A first light over flight conducted by an Air Station Savannah HH-65 helicopter crew confirmed that the oil sheen has dissipated. Air crews covered approximately 100 square miles.

CG Responds to Oil Spill off Savannah Coast

The Coast Guard is responding to an oil spill approximately nine-miles offshore of Savannah after a tank ship punctured a hole in its double-hulled fuel tank during the deployment of the ship's anchor Sept. 27. The Singapore based tank ship, Stolt Vision, reportedly sustained a rupture to the starboard fuel tank located beneath the water surface while lowering its anchor at approximately 5:50 p.m. Sept. 27. A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah conducted an over flight of the area at approximately 8:00 p.m., and confirmed an oil sheen approximately two-miles long and 60-feet wide. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Savannah, Station Tybee Island, Ga., and Air Station Savannah are responding to the incident.

Coast Guard Rescues Savannah boaters

A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah rescued two boaters at 1:45 p.m. after they were forced to jump into the water when their vessel caught fire seven miles southeast of Tybee Island, Ga., today. Rescue coordinators from Coast Guard Group Charleston, S.C., diverted the helicopter crew, which was returning from a previous missions in Charleston and also launched a small boat from Station Tybee, Ga., to respond to the vessel fire. Wallace Thomas Jr, and Thomas Wright were located immediately by the Savannah helicopter crew. Both boaters were forced to abandon ship to avoid flames which had completely engulfed their 30 foot recreationaal boat. Each of the survivors were hoisted by the Coast Guard air crew and taken to Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah.
