Ship Carrying Cattle Sinks enRoute to UAE

A vessel carrying hundreds of cattle exported from Somalia to Saudi Arabia capsized off Oman coast on Saturday after being hit by stormy weather, according to reports from Arab media. The owner of the ship is Emirati and from Ajman while the crewmen were Pakistanis. The UAE owned ship was reportedly carrying 350 cows before it capsized, reports Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language paper. Witnesses said all of the cows and calves either swam to the shoreline themselves or were washed up by the current, reported The Times of Oman. All of the ship’s crew was saved but the ship was completely submerged within hours. All crew have been rescued by Oman's rescue team; however, the ship submerged at depth into the water after rescue team failed to save it.

Drydocks World Repairs NDC Drilling Rig

Drydocks World, an international service provider to the marine and maritime sectors including to the oil and gas and energy industry, announced the completion of major repair and refurbishment of National Drilling Company’s (NDC) jack up drilling rig Al Ittihad. The company said it has carried out maintenance work on several of NDC’s rigs, and the numbers have increased over the years: Drydocks World received four orders in 2013 to add to the eight projects completed previously.

UAE To Ban Bad Vessels

The United Arab Emirates will soon implement a ban on vessels carrying the flags of certain countries from entering its territorial waters. The decision follows one of the worst oil spills to affect the country's coastline in years after a sanctions-busting Iraqi tanker sank in April. The Georgian-registered Zainab was carrying 1,300 tons of fuel oil. Citing a blacklist from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the UAE cabinet decided to ban vessels registered in Albania, Belize, Bolivia, Cambodia, Comoros, Georgia, Honduras, the Maldives, Mauritius and Saint Vincent.
