Construction and Drilling Training Center Opens

TQ Construction and Drilling Training Center Inaugurated in Dammam. Leading representatives from Saudi’s oil and gas sector gathered in Dammam on Thursday, February 27, to launch the newest Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic (SPSP), the Construction and Drilling Training Center. His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz attended the Inauguration, along with His Excellency, Eng. Ali Ibrahim Al-Naimi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; Dr Ali Nasir Al-Ghofais, Governor of TVTC and His Excellency Mr Khalid Al-Falih, President and CEO of Saudi Aramco. The Construction and Drilling Training Center is the fourth SPSP to be opened in the Kingdom, with the original SPSP campus also located in Dammam, and other centers in Al Khafji and Rabigh.

Keppel FELS Delivers 21st Rig of 2013

Keppel FELS Ltd (Keppel FELS) has delivered ARABDRILL 60, a KFELS B Class jackup rig, to Arabian Drilling Company (ADC) five days ahead of schedule, on budget and with a perfect safety record. This marks the 21st newbuild offshore rig that Keppel FELS has delivered in 2013, setting a new record for the most rig deliveries by a company in a year. Reef Subsea Win Large Middle East, A-P, Contracts

Reef Subsea Dredging and Excavation (D&E) report they have secured a number of substantial contracts in the Middle-East and Asia Pacific as they continue to grow its global footprint. The Middle-East contracts will involve two teams from the company’s UK workforce managing subsea excavation work in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The work in the Al Khafji field in Saudi Arabia, on behalf of Technip and Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), is a shore approach cable excavation in shallow waters. Specialist personnel will also be deployed for the post-lay burial of the 165mm composite cable.

Joint venture with Al Bakri Group set to create leading maritime and cargo services business in the region. Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) launched new operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, providing ISS with a presence in one of the largest industrial and project-orientated economies within the Middle East. In creating the new entity, ISS has signed a joint venture agreement (JV) with Al Bakri Group of Saudi Arabia. The JV, known as ISS Saudi Arabia will provide customers with marine, cargo and government services as well as survey and liner agency; all specifically tailored to meet the precise needs of each customer’s business. ISS Saudi Arabia will also operate launch services off Rastanura. All services are available to customers 24/7, and are supported by ISS’s global network, systems, infrastructure and standard operating procedures.

Technip Wins Saudi, Kuwait Contract

Technip was awarded a contract by Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC), for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning assistance of their Gas and Condensate Export System project. The project is spread over onshore and offshore locations in two countries, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The objective of the project is to deliver a combination of lean gas, condensate and sour gas through a single 12” export pipeline from Al Khafji Joint Operations (KJO) facilities in Saudi Arabia to Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) tie-in facility,namely the Intermediate Slug Catcher being constructed under KOC Project No EF/1718 near Al-Ahmadi, Kuwait.

New and amended TSSs

The IMO issued a Circular announcing three new and two amended traffic separation schemes (TSSs). The new TSSs are (1) “Off Ra’s al kuh”; (2) Approaches to the Port of Ra’s al Khafji”; and (3) “in the Adriatic Sea”. The amended TSSs are (a) Between Korsoer and Sprogoe” and (b) “In the Singapore Strait”. (HK Law)

J. Ray McDermott Wins Two Contracts

McDermott Arabia Company Ltd. a subsidiary of J. Ray McDermott, S.A., has been awarded two turnkey contracts by Al-Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), to provide engineering, procurement, construction and installation services for KJO developments in the Arabian Gulf. The first contract is for an integrated wellhead jacket (IWJ) in the Al-Khafji oil field offshore Saudi Arabia. The second contract will see J. Ray support the expansion of KJO's loading facilities in the offshore Neutral Zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Projects of this type are typically valued over $50 million. The new IWJ wellhead platform, weighing approximately 1,100MT, is similar to other IWJs. The structure, including jacket, piles, and deck will be fabricated at J.
