Former FedEx Canada President to Head Long Beach Port

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners is scheduled to vote Monday, June 30, to name Jon W. Slangerup, a veteran corporate executive with extensive experience in global logistics and environmental technologies, as the Port of Long Beach’s new Chief Executive. “After an extensive, nationwide search, the Board of Harbor Commissioners is very pleased to recommend the appointment of Jon Slangerup as the Port’s new Chief Executive,” said Harbor Commission President Doug Drummond. “He’s an extremely capable leader, proven team-builder and expert at managing a world-class organization. With the pending expansion of the Panama Canal and the aftermath of the 2008 recession, port communities throughout North America have been highly focused on maintaining and growing their business.

Moro Accentuates Growth in Port Address

High-tech cranes, bigger ships, cleaner skies and more jobs ― that’s the way Al Moro, Acting Executive Director of the City of Long Beach Harbor Department, summed up the Port of Long Beach’s 2013 and the expectations for the year just started, at Thursday morning’s biggest-ever State of the Port address. Harbor Commission President Doug Drummond introduced Moro with his own hopeful outlook for 2014 during the annual event, which this year drew an audience of more than 700 at a downtown Long Beach hotel.

POLB Appoint Al Moro Interim Executive Director

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners appoint chief harbor engineer Al Moro as the Port of Long Beach’s interim executive director. Moro, who joined the Port in 1997 as a civil engineer, currently oversees all administrative and technical activities for the Port’s engineering programs, including nearly $4 billion in capital improvement projects. “The Board is extremely pleased that we have unanimously selected Al Moro as our interim executive director. He is highly respected by all of the commissioners, very well regarded in our industry, and well liked by the Port staff.

BP's 'British Pride' made Port of Long Beach history as it came alongside with a draft of 65 ft. The Port says that the British Pride’s call exemplifies the its dedication to long-range strategies that will help it stay ahead of the maritime industry’s dynamic business needs. A recently completed $40 million dredging project allowed the supertanker and its sister ship, the British Progress, to deliver more product than ever to the Port’s Berth T121. The dredging widened and deepened the Main Channel and the Middle Harbor Turning Basin to accommodate the newest generation of mega-ships.
