Sheikh Ahmed receives “Maritime Visionary Award”

HH Sheikh Ahmad bin Saeed Al Maktoum received The Maritime Standard Special “Maritime Visionary Award” in recognition of his exceptional foresight in supporting and revitalizing the UAE’s maritime sector in his role as Chairman of Dubai World. The award was presented on November 6th 2014 at the Atlantis, The Palm Jumeirah, at a glittering ceremony where leaders representing all facets of the industry from the Middle East & Indian subcontinent were present to honour HH & recognize his exception contribution. Over 600 guests joined the function to honour HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed at The Maritime Standards Award where PR guru, journalist and writer Alistair Campbell was Master of Ceremonies & led the accolades accorded to HH.

Oman Drydock Announces 200th Drydocking

Oman Drydock Company (ODC), based in the Middle East’s new mega city of Duqm, signaled its "passionate and driving ambition" to catapult itself further into the region’s multibillion dollar ship repair industry after completing its 200th drydocking since launching in 2011. A ceremony was held at the shipyard, which cost $1.5 billion to build, to celebrate the landmark with shipping giant Maersk whose vessel, the 4388 TEU Maersk Wisconsin, was the 200th ship to be drydocked by ODC.

Oman Drydock Receives Largest Two LNG Carriers Yet

Oman DryDock Company (ODC) has made another milestone achievement when it received the largest two carriers since starting the soft operation last April. The earlier gas carrier received by the company last year, Muscat LNG which is owned by Oman Shipping Company, was smaller in size compared to the carriers received by the dock during this period. Commenting on this milestone achievement, Sheikh Khalil bin Ahmed al Salmi said Oman DryDock Company received the German Crude Carrier Alpha Glory that has a capacity of 309,636 tons. The carrier, of dimensions  333 m x 58 m x 31.2 m will receive the required maintenance and repair service at the dock. The service includes the replacement of a large quantity of steel in addition to cleaning the tanks.

KOTC Receives Giant Oil Tanker from S. Korea

According to a report from the Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait Oil Tanker Co. (KOTC) said it received a giant tanker from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. The tanker, named Al-Salmi, can carry up to 1.2 million barrels of oil.   Source: KUNA
