AO Shipping Selects Wallem for 2 Newbuilds
AO Shipping has selected Wallem Europe as the managers of its two newbuild I-Star Ultramaxes, which will be delivered in 2015 from Imabari Shipbuilders. Wallem has been managing vessels for AO Shipping since 2009, and with the addition of the I-Star Ultramaxes, from 2015 Wallem will be managing five vessels on behalf of the owner. Wallem Europe Managing Director Ulrich Paulsdorff said the new vessel contracts were an endorsement of the maritime services offered by Wallem in Europe.
Hamburg Süd Christens First Ship in the U.S.
For the first time in the shipping company’s history, Hamburg Süd has celebrated the christening of a ship in the U.S. The ceremony to name the 3,800 TEU container ship Cap Corrientes was held on August 23 in the Port of San Francisco. The ship’s sponsor is Ofelia Gallo, the wife of Joseph E. Gallo, President and CEO of the E.&J. Gallo Winery in Modesto, California. The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Heino Schmidt, Member of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd, and Alexander Oetker representing the Oetker family. The container ship was built by Taizhou Catic Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Ltd. in China for the account of Vilmaris Management GmbH of Hamburg/Germany and is on a long-term charter with Hamburg Süd.

Two New Ships for A.O. In May 2012, A.O. Schiffahrt celebrated the christening of the Kamsarmax bulk carrier Caroline Oetker at the yard of Taizhou Catic Shipbuilding, near Shanghai. The sister vessel Ida Oetker was due to be christened at the same location on June 26. Both ships have a capacity of 82,000 dwt, and measure 229 x 32 m. Sponsor of the Caroline Oetker was Daniela Oetker, wife of Alexander Oetker, owner of A.O. Schiffahrt and son of Dr hc August Oetker, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Dr. August Oetker KG. The sister vessel Ida Oetker was due to be christened at the same location on 26 June. Both newbuildings have a capacity of 82,000 dwt, and measure 229 x 32 m. Rio Negro Christened in Korea
The sponsor of the Rio Negro is Daniela Oetker, wife of Alexander Oetker, Managing Director of the shipping company A.O. Schiffahrt GmbH & Co. KG. The Rio Negro is named after a tributary of the Amazon which rises in and then flows into the Amazon in (). Following delivery on November 4, 2008, the Rio Negro will initially be deployed in Hamburg Süd's New Good Hope Express Service, which connects Asia and with South America East Coast. She is then scheduled to be phased into the shipping group's - South America East Coast Service in March/April 2009.
