CSA 2020 Applauds DFDS on EGCS Drive

The international organization to promote Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS), Clean Shipping Alliance (CSA) 2020 has congratulated Danish ferry operator DFDS A/S for ten years of successful scrubber operation, with EGCS onboard the 37,939gt roro Ficaria Seaways achieving more than 50, 000 running hours since 2009.Ficaria Seaways, one of the first ro-ro vessels to be fitted with an Alfa Laval PureSOx system, operates inside the stringent European Sulfur Emission Control Area (SECA), on the Gothenburg – Immingham route.“The installation has prevented a substantial amount of sulfur emissions from entering the atmosphere,” said Poul Woodall…

PureSOx Installed on Canadian Cement Carrier

As well as being the established choice of scrubber for Emission Control Areas (ECAs), Alfa Laval PureSOx is proving its capabilities on the Great Lakes. The system will soon be installed on a cement carrier that will operate in the region as part of the NovaAlgoma fleet. NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers Limited has recently expanded its fleet with the M/v Nacc Quebec. This ecologically efficient self-discharging bulker will be converted from an existing vessel in China and will begin her operation in 2017.

MAN Engines to Power Italian Luxury Cruise Ships

MAN Diesel & Turbo is to supply eight engines for the diesel-electric propulsion of two cruise ship newbuildings to Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. The company is delivering the engines in cooperation with Alfa Laval who will supply accompanying exhaust-gas-treatment systems (PureSOx) for sulphur-oxide removal. Each cruise ship will be powered by two MAN 9L32/44CR and two MAN 12V32/44CR engines, providing a combined output of 23,520 kW in a diesel-electric propulsion arrangement.

Alfa Laval to supply PureSOx exhaust gas cleaning systems for two cruise ships to MAN in a SEK 55 million contract. The Alfa Laval PureSOx exhaust gas cleaning systems will be installed onboard two luxury cruise liners, where they will remove over 98 percent of the sulphur oxides from the ship’s exhaust gas.
