Mud Cat Dredges Operating in Iraq

Multiple amphibious, multifunction dredges from Mud Cat are operating in Iraq to clean various dams and barrages that are positioned along the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Iraq’s Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) purchased the MFDs to remove accumulated silt, sand and vegetation at each dam’s basin. By performing regular dam maintenance, Iraq’s MWR can maintain the designed water levels at the dams to prevent structural components from being compromised. Originating in eastern Turkey, the Tigris River measures approximately 1,150 miles long through Iraq and flows in a southeasterly direction.

DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali Port has been recognized for excellence in container terminal operations at the first ever Navis Inspire Awards 2015. HE Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World said the industry prize underlined the global marine terminal operator’s customer centric approach, innovation, process excellence and commitment of its employees. Bin Sulayem’s comments were made in a special event held in Dubai to celebrate the award and to congratulate DP World’s UAE Region team for the achievement.

5 Quay Cranes Arrive At DP WORLD’S Jebel Ali Terminal

Global marine terminal operator DP World today announced that its new Container Terminal 3 at its flagship Jebel Ali Port is making good progress with the arrival of 5 new quay cranes and half of its 19 automated cranes being tested before the start of initial operations in the next few weeks. The 4 million TEU (twenty foot equivalent container units) capacity of Terminal 3, makes it the world’s largest semi-automated facility once fully operational. Terminal 3 has seen a number of developments since its inauguration by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in January.

WSS Signs Contract with KPT

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has signed its first contract with Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to supply cleaning chemicals during 2011 – 2012, demonstrating an ongoing growth for WSS within what is an increasingly important region to the company. The port of Karachi comprises a deep natural harbor with an 11 km long approach channel, designed to provide safe navigation for vessels up to 75,000 metric tons deadweight. The first order is for de-scaling liquid for the fleet of dredgers operating in the KPT dry dock. Annually, KPT uses approximately 8000 liters of this product. “We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with KPT,” comments Moloy Das, Area Sales Manager for Wilhelmsen Ships Service in the sub-continent.
