Allweiler to Roll Out New Centrifugal Pumps

Allweiler GmbH, part of CIRCOR International, Inc., will exhibit its redesigned vertical centrifugal pump solutions for ship engine rooms at this year’s SMM fair in Hamburg.According to the manufacturer, a new innovative foot design reduces space requirements and improves operational safety."The new compact MA-S and MA-C series are vertically installed centrifugal pumps with axial inlets and radial outlets. The S version was designed for simple and rapid assembly and disassembly of the insert unit with impeller.

Damen PSV 3300: A Diamond in the Rough

The platform supply vessel World Diamond was delivered by Damen Shipyards, Galati, on June 28, 2013, to World Wide Supply. The PSV was built to a completely new and distinctive design from Damen, and World Diamond is the first of six PSVs for the Norwegian owner. The vessel is capable of worldwide operations and its construction involved close cooperation with Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, The Netherlands, which provided engineering and main equipment. Colfax to Supply Pumps for Massive Heavy-lifting Ship

Colfax Fluid Handling, a business of Colfax Corporation, was awarded a contract as the exclusive supplier of hydraulic pumps for a ship capable of lifting the topside structures from offshore platforms. With a lifting capacity of up to 48,000 tons, the ship will remove topsides in one piece and transport them to land for deconstruction. Low Sulphur Fuels Cause Pump Deterioration

Due to new regulations, the shipping community is faced with new challenges on a large scale, especially those ships that operate both inside and outside environmental zones and switching over from one fuel to another. For a long time the traditional approach to operation on heavy fuel oils (HFO) has been “pier-to-pier”. This is all going to change, said Allweiler, a world-leading provider of marine pumps to the shipping industry. When global ship operator BW Gas overhauled a low-performing fuel service pump, it discovered high wear on pump elements. BW Gas concludes that a contributing factor to the increased wear rate on the pump can be the 0.1% Sulphur marine gas oil used in EU ports, however it is also clear that other factors play a significant role.

Colfax, Allweiler Strengthen Presence in China, India

Allweiler AG has been producing pump parts at its own factory in Wuxi, China since the beginning of October. Starting in 2006, this plant will manufacture complete pumps for the Asian market. Having a production site in China makes it much easier for Allweiler to gain ground in this market. In neighboring India, the company recently purchased pump manufacturer Tushaco Pumps Ltd. Tushaco has been producing various pump types under license from Allweiler for about thirty years.Allweiler sees significant potential for growth in the Chinese market over the next few years, and being able to produce parts or entire pumps at its own Chinese plant will make it much easier to increase sales in that country.
