General Dynamics Wins $73m Naval Sea Systems Contract

General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), won a contract for Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) Machinery and Systems support by the U.S. Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD). The five-year indefinite-delivery, indefinite quantity contract has a potential value of $73.3 million if all options are exercised. Through the contract, General Dynamics will support HM&E machinery and systems on Navy vessels and select land-based sites, as well as other federal agency and federally contracted vessels. These services include prototype engineering,  design, development, testing, performance specifications and data analysis, system fault tree and safety analysis, computer programming and software engineering.

AMSEC, L.L.C., Virginia Beach, Va. (N65540-11-D-0022); Delphinus Engineering, Eddystone, Pa. (N65540-11-D-0020); General Dynamics Information Technology, Fairfax, Va. (N65540-11-D-0019); and NDI Engineering, Thorofare, N.J. (N65540-11-D-0021), are each being awarded indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity, cost-plus-fixed-fee, multiple award contracts in the amount of $91,474,687 for services to support hull, mechanical, and electrical machinery and systems on Navy vessels, other federal agency vessels, federally contracted vessels and platforms, selected maritime agency vessels, and select land based sites. Tecnico Corp., Chesapeake, Va., (N65540-09-D-0033); AMSEC, LLC., Virginia Beach, Va., (N65540-09-D-0029); BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair, Inc., San Diego, Calif., (N65540-09-D-0031); Delphinus Engineering Inc., Eddystone, Pa., (N65540-09-D-0030); General Dynamics Information Technology, Fairfax, Va., (N65540-09-D-0032); Q.E.D. Systems, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va., (N65540-09-D-0029), are each being awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-fixed-fee multiple award contract for engineering and technical services on hull, mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and equipment onboard U.S. Naval Vessels. The dollar value for all six contracts combined is $455,163,385.

Historical Ship Restorations, Alameda Shipyard

A $1m plus contract was recently awarded by the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park to Bay Ship & Yacht Co. of Alameda for the restoration of the historic three-masted, steel-hulled, square-rigged sailing ship, Balclutha. Known locally as the National Maritime Museum, the park is operated by the National Park Service. Fred Shepherd, facility coordinator for the park, which is located adjacent to San Francisco's Fishermen's Wharf, points out that the ship is a star attraction at the park, which has almost 1 million visitors per year.

New Navy Contracts

Austal USA, Mobile Ala., is being awarded a $185,433,564 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-08-C-2217) for the firm quantity of one Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV) with options for up to nine additional ships and associated shore-based spares for the Phase II downselect of the JHSV Program. The JHSV Program will provide high speed, shallow draft transportation capability to support the intra-theater maneuver of personnel, supplies and equipment for the U. S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Army. Work will be performed in Mobile, Ala., and is expected to be completed by November 2010. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, D.C., is the contracting activity.
