Ship Recycling ticks up; Supply Needed

To Scrub, or Not to Scrub -That Is the Question

On January 1, 2015, the IMO Annex VI, ECA zone requirements came into effect. Ship owners and operators are now faced with having to decide between switching to a lower sulfur fuel or embracing alternate solutions such as exhaust gas cleaning systems (Scrubbers) and LNG. Worldwide, about 300 scrubbing systems have already been sold to date for marine applications. Many of these have been sold for vessels operating in the North European ECA and many for the global cruise/ferry industry (both in the US and Europe). The U.S.

Nhava Sheva Container Port Partial Shutdown

The container terminal at India's largest port of Nhava Sheva, also known as Jawajarlal Nehru Port near Mumbai, will be partially shut down for six weeks from the beginning of March to install new harbor cranes. The work in expected to impact normal operating conditions alongside the main container berth and the shallow draft berth. Normal operations are expected to recommence in early May. The port authority will not be in a position to operate at full capacity, but are making arrangements with affected vessel operators to find alternate solutions. Shipping lines have been advised to reroute ships to other Indian west coast ports, including Mundra, Pipavav or Hazira. There are two other terminals working in Nhava Sheva, the NSICT and HTI, which are fully working at this time.
