ABB to Boost Fuel Efficiency of New Bulkers
Pioneer Marineâs newbuilds will feature OCTOPUS-Onboard fuel monitoring system to support the crewâs decision-making. ABB Group company Amarcon will deliver Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP)-compliant OCTOPUS-Onboard fuel monitoring systems for 12 Handysize bulk carriers that will be built by YangZhou GuoYu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd and delivered to the Singapore based owner Pioneer Marine Inc. in 2015 and 2016. Mandatory on all vessels since 2013, SEEMP is an operational measure that establishes a mechanism to improve the energy efficiency of a ship in a cost-effective manner.
DongBang & OHT Select OCTOPUS Advisory Solution
Amarcon, an ABB Group company, today announced that the company will deliver OCTOPUS-Onboard vessel advisory solutions to a total of three vessels owned by Norwegian oil service company OHT AS and Korean heavy cargo transporter DongBang. The information and control system will support the vessels route planning, optimization of speed and insight in critical motions. The repeat order with OHT encompasses OCTOPUS motion monitoring and forecasting for vessel M/V Albatross. OCTOPUS-Onboard Wave Monitoring: SMM Demonstration
Amarcon, a part of the ABB group, and OceanWaveS GmbH, a fully owned subsidiary of Rutter Inc., inform they will demonstrate an OCTOPUS-Onboard advisory suite including Wave and Surface Current Monitoring System set-up during the SMM in Hamburg, from 9 â 12 September 2014. The Amarcon OCTOPUS-Onboard motion monitoring, forecasting and decision support toolkit has an interface with the Wave and Surface Current Monitoring System (WaMoS II) from OceanWaveS GmbH. WaMoS II has been developed for real time measurement of directional ocean wave spectra.
Helideck Safety System to Launch at SMM
Amarcon and Observator Instruments will develop a helideck monitoring and forecasting system to improve the safety of helicopter landings and take-offs from a vessel. Amarcon, a part of the ABB group and Observator Instruments, a developer of sensors and services for meteorological and hydrological monitoring, has announced that the companies will jointly develop a helideck monitoring and forecasting system. The helideck monitoring and forecasting system will improve the flight and passenger safety during helicopter landings and take offs.
Pan Ocean Orders OCTOPUS-Onboard for Heavy Lift Vessels
The Korean based global shipping company Pan Ocean, has ordered OCTOPUS-Onboard system from Amarcon for two semi-submersible heavy lift vessels. The state-of-the-art ship monitoring and advisory system will support the vesselsâ route planning, optimization of speed, heading and fuel consumption. For the two semi-submerging heavy lift vessels, the Sun Rise and the Sun Shine, Amarcon will deliver an OCTOPUS-Onboard installation including motion monitoring and forecasting. The system will increase workability and safety during heavy lift transportation projects.
OCTOPUS-Onboard Ordered for Stanislav Yudin
The Dutch offshore contractor Seaway Heavy Lifting has ordered Amarconâs OCTOPUS-Onboard decision support technology for her monohull crane vessel Stanislav Yudin. This order is the second OCTOPUS-Onboard installation for Seaway Heavy Lifting. In 2011 the Oleg Strashnov was equipped with Amarconâs motion monitoring & forecasting solution. Both vessels from SHL offer, amongst others, significant lifting capabilities and are able to provide a broad range of offshore heavy installations tasks.

LNG Sloshing Prevention Technology
Amarcon and GTT to develop technology that enhances the quality of sloshing measurement & prediction for LNG carriers. Amarcon, a member of the ABB group, has signed a cooperation agreement with GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz) to market and further develop a forecasting and advice software system for sloshing prevention onboard LNG carriers. Sloshing prevention is an advanced module within Amarconâs OCTOPUS advisory software suite that will forecast and advise the crew on the optimum route to take in order to achieve time savings while preventing the risk for sloshing.

ABS Nautical Systems continually enhances its NS5 Enterprise software suite of products to meet ever-changing industry demands.
