Satellite AIS data services provider exactEarth Ltd. announced that its exactTrax small vessel monitoring technology is now incorporated into Alltek Marine Electronic Corp’s (AMEC) AIS Tracking Beacon (TB560). The AMEC TB560 is a simplified Class B AIS device that offers an efficient and cost-effective vessel monitoring solution within AIS VHF transmission range. Now outfitted with exactTrax technology from exactEarth, which extends small vessel tracking beyond traditional coastal surveillance, the AMEC TB560 can reliably be detected from space. exactTrax allows for the secure transmission and reliable detection of signals from the millions of artisanal and small-scale commercial fishing boats and small commercial work boats currently operating around the world.

Australia's WorleyParsons has won a contract from state oil firm Saudi Aramco to conduct engineering and design work for offshore facilities and pipelines for the expansion of the Marjan oilfield in Saudi Arabia, industry sources told Reuters. Worleyparsons and Saudi Aramco declined to comment. Under the new contract, the Australian company will design and engineer new offshore facilities such as platforms and additional pipelines to link to a new gas facility in Tanajib on the Gulf coast, and from Tanajib to the expanded natural gas liquid (NGL) facility in Khursaniyah, one of the sources said. Saudi Aramco is expanding the oilfield to meet increased demand for gas at home.

Effective May 1, Lasse Petterson has assumed the role of chief executive officer (CEO), a provider of dredging, environmental and remediation services. In his over 35-year career, Petterson has gained extensive experience in the engineering, construction and maritime industries. His international experience includes time working and living in Norway, Asia and the U.K. to oversee operations and major projects in Australia, Middle East and South America. Most recently, Petterson served as a private consultant to clients in the oil and gas sector. Petterson served as chief operating officer (COO) and executive vice president at Chicago Bridge and Iron (CB&I) from 2009 to 2013. Prior to CB&I, Petterson was CEO of Gearbulk, Ltd.

The Board of Directors of Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation, provider of dredging, environmental and remediation services, announced the selection of Lasse Petterson as CEO, as well as his appointment to the company’s board of directors. Petterson will join the Board immediately and assume the role of chief executive officer once his application for U.S. citizenship, as required by the Jones Act, is finalized, which is expected in Q1 2017. During this time, Lasse and current CEO Jonathan Berger will work to ensure a seamless transition. Petterson brings to the role 35 years of experience in the engineering, construction and maritime industries.

Amec Foster Wheeler has been awarded a contract by Indian Oil LNG Private Ltd. Co. (IOLPL) for the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal in Ennore, Tamil Nadu, on the east coast of India. This award follows the successful completion of a front end engineering and design contract for the terminal in 2012. Dredges are currently being used in a large tidal marsh restoration project at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware, one of the largest ever marsh restoration projects in the eastern U.S. Using two Two Ellicott 460SL dredges, the project aims to restore a highly damaged tidal marsh/barrier beach ecosystem covering about 4,000 acres within the former freshwater impoundment system on the refuge. This coastal wetland restoration also improves the ability of the refuge marshes to withstand future storms and sea level rise and improves habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife.

London Mayor Boris Johnson gave final approval to build a new cruise terminal on the Thames River at Greenwich. The terminal, to be located at Enderby Wharf, is expected to play host to 55 ship calls a year when it becomes operational in 2017. Ships as long as 230m in length will be able to dock at the Enderby Wharf location, with a maximum of 1600 passengers on each vessel. There had been opposition from local residents on the new plan in Greenwich at Enderby Wharf. There were concerns on air quality from having more cruise ships which in turn causes more bad fumes from the ship’s fuel. Cost-cutting in Britain's North Sea oil and gas sector could lead to more acute skills shortages in future, industry experts have warned, with some expressing concerns that safety could be compromised. A plunge in crude prices over the last 12 months has prompted oil majors such as Royal Dutch Shell, BP , Chevron and ConocoPhillips to lay off hundreds of workers. Oil field services groups such as Amec Foster Wheeler , Wood Group and Petrofac are also in consultation with employees over job cuts.

Kvaerner North American Construction Inc. (a subsidiary of Kvaerner) has executed agreements today, with each of Longview Power, LLC, Siemens Energy Inc. and others regarding the disputes between them in both the arbitration proceedings concerning the Longview Project and the subsequent bankruptcy cases of Longview Power, LLC. Under the agreements, Kvaerner North American Construction Inc. will receive an aggregate amount of USD 48 million from various parties. In consideration, Kvaerner North American Construction Inc. will settle certain claims and release the Mechanics' Liens filed against the Longview power plant properties in Maidsville, West Virginia, and will waive all objections in the ongoing Longview Power, LLC bankruptcy proceedings.

Chevron awarded front end engineering and design contracts for the expansion of its Captain oil and gas field in the North Sea to British suppliers Wood Group and Amec Foster Wheeler, it said on Tuesday. The offshore field, located around 68 miles (109 kilometres)north of Aberdeen, in 2013 produced around 25,000 barrels of oil and 3 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The planned work aims to increase the field's output using polymer injection technology, Chevron said in a statement. Wood Group was awarded a contract for the subsea engineering of the trees, wellheads, controls and the polymer injection flowlines to the subsea injection wells.

ABIS Projects has won a clutch of contracts worth around £1million over the next 15 months. The oil and gas project services consultancy has secured frame agreements and call-off contracts with ADTI, Hunting, Talisman Sinopec and North Sea newcomer, MOL. Aberdeen-based ABIS Projects is working with these new clients providing multi-discipline resources covering business strategy, acquisitions, risk, projects and management systems across the supply chain. Francis Kiernan, who acquired an interest in ABIS Projects earlier this year, said: “With the considerable drop in oil price, the focus in the North Sea once again turns to innovative ways of working which will deliver cost-efficiencies and greater value. Rig design and engineering specialist RDS has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract by AMEC for Premier Oil’s Sea Lion development in the North Falklands Basin. RDS is the rig design and engineering subsidiary of international drilling and engineering contractor, KCA Deutag. The FEED work is part of AMEC’s overall FEED contract for the Sea Lion development and follows a concept study which was executed by an RDS team in Houston. The contract, which is expected to be carried out over the next 12 months, will see RDS deliver the design of drilling rig modules for a Tension Leg Platform (TLP), 200km north of the Falkland Islands.

Foster Wheeler AG (Nasdaq: FWLT) today reported income from continuing operations for the second quarter of 2014 of $85.6 million, or $0.85 per diluted share, compared with $68.3 million, or $0.68 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2013. Income from continuing operations in both quarterly periods was impacted by net asbestos-related gains and provisions, as detailed in an attached table. Excluding such items from both quarterly periods, adjusted income from continuing operations in the second quarter of 2014 was $86.8 million, or $0.86 per diluted share, compared with $54.6 million, or $0.54 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.

An attempt by the UK’s Chamber of Shipping last week to persuade the British government that the industry needed more time to comply with new sulphur emission limits entering force on 1 January next year received short shrift from the shipping minister. However the Chamber, along with other European shipowners' associations, is reported to be determined to continue its campaign, reports shipping trade association Maritime London. The owners’ organisations say that switching to distillate fuel will be too costly and would lead to job losses and modal shifts from sea to road transport while the other option of fitting scrubbers has only just become available and it will take time to to fit this equipment.

Britain's North Sea oil and gas industry faces a bleak future where more fields are likely to become uneconomic and shut in as platforms close - unless costs can be controlled, operators say. For some elderly platforms in the Northern North Sea, time is running out. If the industry does not get to grips with costs quickly, fresh investment is likely to dry up, forcing unsaleable rusting rigs to be abandoned. "From a cost point of view, the chickens are coming home to roost," said Tim Walsh, senior vice president, asset integrity services at Lloyd's Register Energy.
