Conrad Launches YRBM Vessel for the US Navy

On August 14, Conrad Shipyard launched the first Yard, Repair, Berthing, and Messing (YRBM) barge under construction for the U.S. Navy ahead of scheduled delivery in the first quarter of 2024.Conrad is currently under contract to build five YRBM barges, which provide a temporary home and workplace for service men and women whose vessels are in port for repairs and maintenance.The YRBM barge is an ABS A1 Accommodation Barge with a 151’-4” x 49’-4” x 14’ footprint. Bollinger Delivers New Bayou Teche Flood Gate

Bollinger Shipyards said it has delivered the Bayou Teche flood gate to St. Mary Parish Levee District. The steel flood gate—measuring 84 feet long, 40 ft wide and 19 feet high—is designed for a 25-year rain event and to provide flood risk reduction for a 10-foot storm surge. The gate is the heart of the Bayou Teche Flood Control Structure project announced in January of this year.The Bayou Teche Flood Control Structure is designed to reduce the risk of heavy rain event and hurricane storm surge flooding when water comes through the Charenton Canal into Bayou Teche.

Danos Appoints 3 to Sr. Positions

Danos announces the hiring of Marc Distefano, John Danos and Jack Roszelle to leadership positions with the company. “We welcome Marc, John and Jack to the Danos team,” said CEO and President Hank Danos. John Danos (no relation) serves as construction division general manager, working to develop a best practices foundation for the way Danos executes projects in conjunction with the company’s project management group. Prior to joining Danos, he held leadership positions at J. Ray McDermott, International Offshore Services, International Construction Group and Harvey Gulf International Marine. As fabrication operations manager of the Amelia facility, Marc Distefano is responsible for overall leadership of the facility and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.

Danos Fabrication Facility Creates 150 Jobs

Danos, a family owned oil and gas service company, announced plans to expand its fabrication capabilities, by opening a 120,000 square-foot fabrication facility in Amelia, La. The new facility, set to begin operations in October 2014, sits on about 45 acres of waterfront property and will create employment opportunities for about 150 workers. “The demand for our services is growing rapidly, and the size, location and condition of the Amelia facility allows us to better meet the needs of our customers,” Eric Danos, executive vice president, said. Bollinger Re-Delivers ATB to Bouchard

Bollinger Algiers, L.L.C., and Bollinger Amelia Repair, L.L.C., two Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. companies, have redelivered the double hull asphalt Barge B. No. 235, a 133,000 barrel (BBL) Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90) compliant tank barge and accompanying tug, J. George Betz, a 6140 horsepower oceangoing tug, back into service for Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc., Melville, NY as an Articulated Tug/Barge (ATB) unit. Bollinger Delivers Barge to Progressive

Bollinger Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., (BMF) Amelia, La., a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. company, has delivered to Progressive Barge Line, Inc., Westwego, La., its first new leading edge double hull OPA’90 Lakes, Bays and Sounds tank barge. Barge PBL 3002 measures 297.6-feet in length, 54.0-foot beam and 13.0-foot depth, with a rated capacity of 28,300 barrels (BBL). Elliot Bay Design Group performed the design and engineering package in support of Bollinger. PBL 3002 departed the Bollinger Amelia facility on October 31st and towed directly to the Progressive Westwego terminal to commence bunkering services on the Mississippi River, throughout the port of New Orleans and the Intracoastal Canal Waterway.

Conrad Rides the (Expansion) Tide

The business of predicting the course of financial markets has led many companies - good and bad, large and small - to ruin. Perhaps, then, it is better to rely on tenets of nature, such as "Only the Strong Survive" when laying out business plans. Conrad Industries of Morgan City, La., has obviously ascribed to the latter, building a formidable fortress of a marine company with a wide geographic scope, including the recent news of its pending acquisition of Swiftships, an apparent $12.5 million deal which is still under negotiation. Visitors unfamiliar with Conrad Industries would be immediately struck by the modernity of its facilities in Morgan City, La. In continuous operation since 1948, Conrad Shipyard, based here, specializes in offshore and inland vessel and barge repair.
